Hi my name is Phill, I've been playing the guitar [or torturing it] since I was 14, 43 years ago, wow that seems such a long time ago now, but to me it's just like yesterday.
I was inspired to become a musician when I heard "My Bonnie" by The Beatles back in 1962, it was played on Radio Luxembourg just the once and I caught it...brill.
My mate Jeff and myself put our 1st band together after hearing Freddy and the Dreamers on Thank Your Lucky Stars, he had a guitar, so I made one from an old toilet seat and piano strings, it didn't work! I haven't seen Jeff since...wonder why?
Why this name?
It's the name I was born with
Do you play live?
I play the pubs and clubs around South Wales. Every moment is special at my age.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It will ruin the music industry, as the big companies, AND RECORD PRODUCERS will not be in charge of record production and trends...not such a bad thing, but will quality suffer as a result. That remains to be seen.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
YES, YES, YES
Your influences?
As already stated, my early and continuing influence is Beatle music, Yes have played a big roll in how I write, as have Jethro Tull, Queen and Supertramp. I am well into the more traditional rock like Zeppelin and Purple. I also buy and listen to the Eagles and Genesis. I will list Country Rock as a main influence to my music and sound as of the last few years.
Favorite spot?
The Welsh country side. I love trees and valleys and lakes, there's a place that has all three on the way between Lampeter and Aberystwyth, it's not on the main road, you have to go inland...beautiful!
Equipment used:
I have a 1972 Strat, a Crafter cut away semi acoustic, a Cort solid body elec. My guitar amp is a Peavy Bandit played through a Boss ME-50.
Korg 8 track digi for recording. Spirit mixer amp for live and recording purposes. FBT speakers.
Anything else...?
Live I play covers, 60's Dire Straits Ballard's C/W anything goes ad infinitum
