IVE BEEN PLAYING GUITAR FOR CLOSE TO 30 YEARS.IT HAS REALLY BEEN A LIFE SAVER FOR ME.I HAVE QUITE AN EXTENSIVE RECORDING STUDIO AS WELL AS LOTS OF GEAR.I HAVENT BEEN GIGGING AS MUCH SO I CAN WORK ON MY ENGINEERING TECHNIQUE.ALTHOUGH I HAVE PLAYED IN COUNTLESS COVER BANDS.I PRETTY MUCH RELY ON MY TWO SONS TO FILL IN WITH PLAYING DRUMS AND BASS BUT WILL DO IT MYSELF IF NEEDED.MOST OF THE SONGS POSTED ARE MYSELF AND MY OLDEST SON BRANDYN.
Why this name?
LETS SEE MY NAME IS MIKE WOOD AND THE BAND IS CALLED THE MIKE WOOD BAND HMM.I REALLY DONT KNOW.(LOL)
Do you play live?
we still play some occasional shows. But for the last 6 months or so Ive really been working on my studio as well as building guitars.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
the internet is such a huge rescource for the musicians as well as the listener.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Of course if we were to get a deal you bet we would be there.I have been ivolved in several bands that released cd,s independantly and it was an experience worth repeating especially on a bigger budget.
I have pretty much played exclusivley with my son Brandyn as my drummer for the last 6 years. We sometimes bring in other musiscians for tracks or to play a show, but breaking down the gear isnt nearlly as much fun as it used to be.
Its really hard to say because I am influenced by so many players new and old. This changes regularly though.Music is on its never ending path of repeating itself as far as styles and trends go.Whats popular today will be forgotten tomorrow.
I love upper Michigan which is my home state. There is beauty there you have to see to appreciate.
Marshall amps Fender,Gibson,JACKSON and my own hand built guitars. We generally use my Yamaha DT express electronic drums.Mackie mixers Yamaha and QSC amps.Roland recorders and pc based software,Cubase,Sound Forge,Wavelab,Waves plugins.Korge and yamaha synths.Digitech processors,BBE,Sonic Maximiser,Peavey,Nemesis bass system,Yamaha and Cerwin Vega speakers foe live apps.Ludwig and Pearl Drums.Shure,AKG & Octiva Mics for the live stuff,Curbow and Fender basses. It never stops the more gear I seem to amass the more I seem to want. But Im alwas adding and changing my studio setup.
Technology moves at such a rapid pace in the music industry that what is good today may not be good tomorrow. So I try to stay updated as well as possible,I really enjoy working with all the new digital stuff thats out now,But its always fun to visit the analogue world every so often.
