Anti-M was founded years ago by John " Wedge" Wardlaw. The band was originally supposed to be a joke, putting out one album for fun. But we realized we loved the whole process, writing, recording, producing, mixing, music videos etc.

Anti-M is hard to classify.

There are too many influences to list but we have been told our current sound is a bit like Evanescence crossed with Depeche Mode. Other comparisons have been made to Within Temptation, The Gathering, Garbage, Pink Floyd, Lacuna Coil, Nightwish, Godsmack, Conjure one...the list goes on.

We hope you will check us out and decide for yourself.

Why this name?
We were watching the Wizard of Oz and suddenly realized we had to call the band Auntie M but spell it Anti-M
Do you play live?
We are currently a studio band but hope to play live in the near future. All of the members of Anti-M have played live in previous bands except founding member John "Wedge" Wardlaw.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
People are able to find music they never would have discovered without the internet. It breaks down international barriers to expensive imports and allows fans to buy single songs when the don't like or can't afford a whole album.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes. If we liked the label and liked the contract. But being independent allows us more direct contact with fans. So far I answer every email the band receives.
Band History:
Anti-M started out as a keyboard based studio band. The first album was intended to be the only album. A humorous concept album about a surfer who dreams he goes to hell and finds no waves there. It was called NO WAVES IN HELL.

Our second album, POSITIVELY NEGATIVE, was a more serious album and featured guitar legend Ronnie Montrose on 4 tracks. His hard rock guitar style and our electronic pop sound blended perfectly.

As the lyrics got darker the music became more melodic and dramatic. Barbara Moseley (vocals, bass) joined Ruston Slager (keyboards, vocals) and founding member John "wedge" Wardlaw (Keyboards, bass, Guitar, Vocals) to give the band a new direction. Barbara's voice and melodies worked with with Ruston's Keyboard playing and Wedge's dark lyrics. Jon Moseley was also brought in to round out the sound with his powerful hard rock guitar style influenced heavily by Alex Lifeson of Rush.

The Result was DAMAGE (2008), the more female fronted goth rock album. The album features amazing artwork, by surrealist painter Ora Tamir, that completes the dark and moody atmospher of Damage.

The band is Currently:

Barbara Moseley- Vocals, Bass

Ruston Slager - Keyboards, Vocals

Jon Moseley - Guitars

John "Wedge" Wardlaw - Keyboards, Programming, Guitar, Bass, Didgerridoo, Vocals

Derek Poultney - Drums and Programming.

Your influences?
Currently we are being told we sound a bit like Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil, The Gathering, Nightwish, Evanescence but with an electronic side like Depeche Mode and then some Pink Floyd and Rush influences too. We mix electronica with Goth rock and progressive rock. We brush the edge of metal and symphonic rock but with some melodic guitars and female vocals. Our harder metal side can be heard in our songs Damage, NO KILL I, Rage, The Saline Solution.
Favorite spot?
Speaking for myself (Wedge) and not the rest of the band, Tasmania.
Equipment used:
Gibson and Fender Guitars, Seymour Duncan pick ups, Yamaha and Rickenbacker (Chris Squire LTD ED) bass, Morley, line 6 and Soldano processors. Keyboards : Korg Trinity, wavestation and Triton ex, Kurzweil pc2, Waldorf, Roland jupiter 8. Digitech and yamaha effects. Digital Performer for recording, Pro Tools for mixing. Too many plug ins to list.
Anything else...?
We were fortunate to work with Tim Landers (Tori Amos, Al Di Meola) on bass on our new album (DAMAGE) and Ronnie Montrose was our featured guest on Positively Negative.
