Why this name?
I really don't even know how the name Marsz came to me. It was just a thing, like, being different. Every artist strives to be different, and if they don't, then the music industry is not the place for them. I guess when I started out in 2006, I had it at Marsz Blackman, but I cut the "Blackman" part out, so now it's just Marsz. I didn't want to be Mars cause that seemed too plain, so I put a Z at the end of it. Plus, I'm looking at becoming a film major, and I love Spike Lee's earlier movies (She's Gotta Have It and, of course, Do the Right Thing), so Marsz kinda just came to me.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The independent industry owes its success to the internet. Otherwise, bands like OK Go would never be as big as they are.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If they wanna pay me, f*** yeah.
Band History:
I got FL Studio in 2006, and I've just been working since then.
Your influences?
Oh my god, influences, let's see...current ones are Kanye West and Pharrell Williams, N.E.R.D., Lupe Fiasco, 9th Wonder, Pete Rock, J Dilla. The Cool Kids are pretty dope too. As far as oldies, cause I'm big on sampling, Parliament, Earth, Wind, and Fire, just anything that's so bizarre and so outlandish that people can't help but love it. That's how I like to think my music will be eventually. Right now, I'm at the mercy of my computer, and that's no fun.
Favorite spot?
I was born in Cleveland, raised in Los Angeles, but I think my favorite spot is definitely New York, and I've only been there for a DAY!!! Philly is pretty hot too. I think I like places that have good food (New York pizza, Philly cheese steak)
Equipment used:
FL Studio, Audacity, a PC (switching to a Mac soon)
