I have been playing the guitar for 20 years as of 2008. I have been involved with various amateur (and sometimes semi-pro) hard rock/heavy metal bands playing cover tunes and/or original material in Istanbul, Turkey. My influences are diverse, ranging from melodic rock to classical music and from traditional Turkish music to jazz, but I mostly write and play rock-based instrumental material. What you will hear is a small part of my output (hopefully it will grow larger) as a guitar player/composer. My tunes are usually in the vein of Satriani/MacAlpine etc.
Why this name?
This is (at least for now) a one-man project rather than a band. Therefore I use no special band name, just my own.
Do you play live?
I do not/ can not perform my original material live due to lack of musicians willing to perform instrumental rock music in Turkey. I have played live with different projects for various occasions in the near past.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It changed for the better. It should be noted, though, that it was not really just the mp3 format that changed the industry. Mp3 is a consequence and not the reason why music industry is changing. People can produce their own music on their home computers now and they do not have to "deal" with a music label. Simply focusing on legal issues surrounding the mp3 format would be to underestimate the real change that is changing the face of the industry.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I do not think I would. I earn my living in an entirely different sector. I am happy to be sharing my music with others and I am not very comfortable with the idea of "selling music". I like to be given credit for my work, but as long as no one is using it for personal gain/profit, such "credit" does not have to be a financial one.
Band History:
No band history, this is a one-man project that has evolved mostly in the digital recording domain. Please see above.
Your influences?
As long as rock music is concerned, I have mostly been influenced by 70s-80s players such as Ritchie Blackmore, (Gary) Moore, Randy Rhoads, Y.J. Malmsteen, Tony MacAlpine, (Vinnie) Moore, Paul Gilbert, George Lynch, Reb Beach ,Marty Friedman, Jason Becker, Alex Skolnick, Joey Tafolla, Patrick Rondat, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Richie Kotzen, and Greg Howe. Recently I also enjoy and have been influenced by Guthrie Govan, Kiko Loureiro and Michael Romeo. Other influences include almost all Baroque and Romantic era composers from Bach to Chopin, bebopers like Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, Wes Montgomerry, Django Reinhardt, Jimmy Raney, Chuck Wayne, fusion players like Frank Gambale and "flamekeepers" like jazz guitarist Jimmy Bruno or trumpeteer Arturo Sandoval.
Favorite spot?
Kadýkoy - Istanbul, Turkey. I guess I am a little biased:) Seriously, world is a beatiful place if you can find the chance to travel. I have been to various countries in Europe and there are many beatiful places one can enjoy. I just happen to love my hometown the most though:)
Equipment used:
Various guitars by different brands including Ibanez, Cort and Washburn. I play electric, acoustic and classical guitar and a little bass guitar as well. I mostly record direct with digital modellers (Digitech), but when I am playing live or while practicing, I prefer to play through my Mesa Recto preamp. I have a number of other preamps, analog stompboxes and effects processors.
