Helge Krabye is a Norwegian composer and artist. He has released most of his music on CD under the artist name Homeless Balloon (see separate page here at SoundClick) on the independent label 24 Chillout Music.
Why this name?
It's my real name, and I will release my most experimental music using my family name.
Do you play live?
I always play live, when I improvise, play with friends or by myself. My audience is everything from small groups to big groups, living rooms to concert halls.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet brings democracy to ordinary people like me. We don't need the support of greedy, commercial labels anymore, and we can keep the rights to our own music :)
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I doubt it. My music is not commercial, and they would probably dump me after the first album release ;o)
Band History:
I started to play instruments at the age of three or four, when my grandmother gave me a wooden citer with twelve strings. Fascinating to learn the note steps and the physics of metal strings and a resonating wooden box! At the age of six, I started to take violin lessons. A couple of years later, I was playing 1st violin in the school orchestra, which actually became quite good and even toured in Germany one year!
Your influences?
The first music i heard was probably classical music on the radio in the mid fiftees. Jazz was difficult. When the Beatles released their first records, however - wow! I was lost. The Stones, too. An then the Kings, and Pink Floyd, and... The late sixties was an ocean of sounds and musical discoveries! I listened to Karlheinz Stockahusen, and his music inspired me to buy a four track taperecorder. I experimented with mixing musical sounds with real world sounds. I bought guitars, and keyboard with MIDI when that became available. I bought the first hard disk recording system from Digidesign (SoundTools). I composed original music for several radio plays, television documentaries, fantasy stories - and more than hundre signature melodies and jingles. After getting exhausted form all the composing and late night work, I finally came to myself and decided to compose my own music again. Nothing new yet, but it will come...
