At a very early age Mystyque expressed her passion for music and began performing at church, and in school/local talent shows.. Likened to such talent as that of Lauryn Hill, Floetry and Da Brat.. Mystyque will definitely give new meaning to Triple threat. She loves to write, rap, sing, dance, act, produce and has an amazing sense of fashion..
Mystyque ("Lil' shorty" as she called herself in 1994), formed a group "The Black Taboo", with Darrell, Jihad and Shawn. Being the only girl she was automatically the center of attention of the group. But it was her creative lyricism and impeccable flows that captivated the ears of the audience. Another thing to this day that sets her apart from most mcees is her abstinence from the use of profanity and the N-word. She credits her high school (Boston Latin Academy) for her immense vocabulary and love of words. Mystyque will definitely send you to the dictionary if you're not up to par with her vernacular..
"I don't know anything else I'd rather do than write and perform.. besides go to heaven". Not many people can do what Mystyque does. She is a phenomenal artist who takes creativity to a whole new level. Mystyque is looking to do it all, and in a major way, so watch out for her. She is a breath of fresh air and a force to be reckoned..
Why this name?
Wanting to have a name that means something.. I sat down one day and wrote my style is unique.. Before I could wite anything else down I said Mystique MY-STI-QUE.. Later I changed the spelling to MYST-Y-QUE. But basically my My style's STY unique QUE =MYSTYQUE
Do you play live?
Yes.. I love to perform live.. I have performed all around the city of Boston in places such as the Strand Theatre, Blue Wave, Wally's Jazz Cafe, Poppa B's(spoken word), Great Scott, Dublin House, Bill's Bar, Bell in Hand, Midway Cafe, Milky Way Lounge etc..
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Internet has definitely changed the music industry for the better.. I have had the opportunity to work with producers from places I have never even been. For example: Mike sneezzy heard some of my music on myspace and sent me a link to his soundclick page.. I heard one of his beats and starting writing to it instantly.. a lil' over a week later Keep It On Da Hush was recorded.. I even had it remixed by an artist whom I have never met that Mike Sneezzy introduced to me via myspace..
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes. But after weighing the pros and cons of that label/contract..
Your influences?
Life itself is a major musical influence... My family... My belief in God... Hip Hop, R&B Artists such as Jay-Z and Da Brat, Lauryn Hill, Talib Kweli, Mary J. Blige, Floetry, Common, Eminem, Ne-Yo, Musiq Soulchild, Missy, I could go on and on like Erykah Badu....
Favorite spot?
I really like Atl and DC.. There are plenty of places I still have to visit though..
Equipment used:
Personally I use Garageband(Macbook).. I get to use other equipment when I go to the studio(s)..
Anything else...?
If you or anyone you know can assist me with my pursuit feel free to call or send info... I truly appreciate it..
