DJ Tmaq, was born Mark McLain in Greenville S.C. in 1978. It was in the ninth grade when the soon to be Tmaq tasted his first dose of hip-hop, the music that would eventually change his life. Tmaq said, “It was in 1994, I was waiting for my older sister in the school parking lot when a car drove by and this kid was blasting Beastie-Boys on his stereo.” Like most of us who are hip hop fanatics, it was just something on the inside of the then Mark McLain that said, “This is just more raw than anything that is out there” which at the time was New Kids On The Block.

Strangely captivated by the sounds of Hip Hop the then Mark would always envision himself jamming with Michael Jackson and Dr. Dre but it wasn’t until a friend casually mentioned that Mark would be good as a DJ that his life began to move towards becoming the popular Tmaq that he is today. After purchasing his first set of high tech Turntables and being invited by one youth pastor and then others to open for local church youth groups the addiction of entertaining took hold. Tmaq considers himself first a Turntablist and second a Disc Jockey but the two together creates a unique and exciting show where the selection of music mixed with Tmaq’s talent on the Turntables produces a show that no one wants to miss.

When performing at a concert event, what could the crowd expect to see in Tmaq’s performance? He says, “I usually start the set with a widely popular classic song that most the crowd is familiar with and can easily start dancing to. Then I may mix straight into an electronic song, and drop into some hip-hop, then pop, then some classic rock. I play many hits but I know the quality of a great dance beat, so I like to find totally unknown artist with phenomenal dancing songs and mix those in the set too.” But, it’s in his ability to draw the crowd into the show that is so unique about his performance.

To Tmaq, mixing the music with the turntables and entertaining the crowd is a way of life and it is this entertaining personality matched with his masterful and talented mixing of popular music with the scratching on the Turntables that draws people to the show and on to the dance floor or up out of their seats in excitement at a concert. The mixing of the energetic DJ and a gifted Turntablist makes people want to, in an exciting way, join with the show and be a part of it and it is this magnetic personality with his Turntable prowess that makes Tmaq so different than the standard DJ. Tmaq is known for his diversity in song selection and the immense list of popular music that he can mix the Turntables with. In short, he can kick up the excitement of a show like no other.

Anyone hearing Tmaq will quickly recognize that he is an artist. But it’s his ability to read the crowd whether at a club or concert or whether it is a wedding crowd, the youth at a High School prom or just house parties that additionally make Tmaq unique. Anyone can play music at a show but virtually all show organizers know that it’s the entertainment of the show that will bring the crowd back time and again or will make the private event something to remember. It seems to be in the makeup of Tmaq that makes him be able to take the music on the records and CDs and mixes it in such a way as to make it belong to the people at the show where they feel they’ve attended a live concert. If you’re looking for a DJ that can make your event into what will seem like a live concert filled with the excitement of the night then Tmaq is who you want to be there. If you have a live concert where you need an entertainer to open the show to get the crowd ready for a night of music and excitement then think……… TMAQ
