The Nebulas are a high-octane furiously driven Instrumental Surf-Rock band from Boston, Mass.
The Nebulas are the result of a powerful chemical reaction that occurred when elements of a highly-developed West Coast guitar sound were combined with a thunderous East Coast rhythm section in the early months of 2001. In the fall of 2000, guitarist Mike Dominguez (The Sand Dunes & The Aquatones) packed up his double-digit collection of Fender guitars & amplifiers and headed east, to the Ocean State of Rhode Island. It was there that he teamed up with Lewis & Nichols, then serving as Connecticut's preeminent surf rhythm section. Soon after the fateful introduction of these volatile ingredients, The Nebulas were born. The trio immediately sought to contain this reaction in the confines of Balancing Hat recording studios in rural Connecticut resulting in "Hot Rods, Waves & Women", a brief 7-song demo, which has already begun seeping into Earth's fragile surf/instro climate via radio airplay at several stations throughout North America. To achieve the optimum live sound, as well as augment future recorded works, the Nebulas recruited Dan-O Ware on the Fender Jazzmaster and Jaguar guitars as the fourth Nebula. This fusion of east meets west has produced a unique musical phenomenon that has already been witnessed by land-based tracking stations in New York and Boston and will continue to expand as the group begins to perform in support of it's full-length debut CD titled "Nebula One"
The Nebulas LIVE for the live performance. The best part is at the end of the show afterwards when people come up to us and say things like "Wow! I didn't even know people played music like this!" or "I had no idea what to expect and it WAS GREAT!"
Think The Woodies meets Satan's Pilgrims, sprinkle The Fathoms and The Astronauts in for good measure, and you've got The Nebulas.
The guitars in The Nebulas can be witnessed abusing anything from Fender Jazzmasters to Jaguars, right on down to their signature black and white Mosrites. Ampwise, It's STRICTLY FENDER!! Showmen, Dual Showmen, Bassmen. As far as speakers go, NO ONE UNDER 15 ADMITTED!! Mikey on Bass is currently enjoying his new Danelectro Rumor bass through a Gallien Krueger power head. TooFastJim on drums will either play his late '60s Rogers Holiday model drumset in original Blue Onyx finish with matching Powertone snare drum OR his Mid '60s Rogers Tower model drumset in emerald green sparkle with matching Gretsch round badge snare (also in green sparkle). Of course, the snare drum could be substituted with a crome-over-brass Rogers Dynasonic, an aluminum Ludwig Acrolite or a chrome-covered steel Slingerland depending on the positioning of the inner planets relative to the sun.
A mixture of vintage and contemporary Zildjian cymbals mounted on Ludwig Atlas (1400 model) flat-based cymbal stands round out TooFastJim's Nebulas batterie. "If there's no chance that the cymbal stand will fall over, then there's no fun in playing at all..." Jim is VERY proud of his matching Roger's snare drum. Feel free to ask him about it at a show...
