Byre Quest was formed in 1999 and is a collaboration of artists from here and there. Brad and Amber Todd are the principals in the band and do most of the writing, but from time to time guest musicians play and write their music for Brad to do the mixing and vocals. Sometimes an instrumental will be the offering, but most of all we try to give a good end result. We are still learning, but aren't we all at one thing or another!
Why this name?
Brad is an ex-DJay from Radio and thought, what it would be like for every song on the radio to be "BY REQUEST" and since Uriah Heep's David Byron is his vocal idol, Byre Quest was born over dinner at the local "Outback Steak House".
Do you play live?
We use to play live but now we just enjoy being in our own home studio seeing what we can dream up next on the computer and other equipment.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Indie or unsigned artists have a very good chance of being heard. Some want to make it big in the industry some just for the joy of achieving a goal. As an ex-D-Jay and music director and radio stations..I know that lots of music gets overlooked even by signed artists just because there are so many that most never get heard and then lost in the piles!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Of course we would!
Your influences?
Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Styx, Rush
Favorite spot?
Wherever I happen to be at the time.
Anything else...?
Press Reviews:
Out of South Carolina, USA comes BYRE QUEST. This band is playing 70s influenced melodic rock with some symphonic influences. There are 3 songs on this demo tape they sent me and it sounds pretty nice. "I remember" and "Ode to the magician" are both good 70s typed melodic rockers a la URIAH HEEP. "Ode to the Magician" is really an amazing song, because it features about 16 Uriah Heep song titles. The song is an Ode to David Byron (original lead singer for Uriah Heep 1970-1976... and is about the years Byron was with his fans, before he died in 1985. The final track "Harvest of sorrow" is much weaker, a 90s type rocker. Hope to hear more music from this band in the near future.(Points: 7.5 out of 10) Gabor Kleinbloesem Editor of Strutter'zine (Netherlands)
Listen.com(Review)Time-warped "hard driving melodic rock" band approximates pre-"Mr. Roboto" Styx with frightening accuracy. The re-creation of the keyboard/guitar ballad and Prog operetta/epic is Byre Quest's specialty and they attack their material with astounding zeal and an inspired attention to detail. If you didn't get enough of it with Paradise Theater back in '81, Byre Quest know your pain and are here to share in it. Mike M.
