We are the Kettering Community Chorus and we have been providing beautiful and inspiring music for audiences around the Miami Valley for 19 seasons. We begin our rehearsal season in late January with performances starting in June and continuing through October. Rehearsals are held each Monday evening, 7:00 to 9:00 PM, at Southminister Presbyterian Church, located on Far Hills Avenue at Alex-Bell Road in Centerville, Ohio. We sing sacred and secular music. Right now we are singing 2 sacred sets, a Disney set, and an Irving Berlin set of music. We welcome all who love to sing to join us! There are no auditions or fees associating with joining this chorus. Anyone from the age of 16 is invited to join us.
Why this name?
Our name was chosen from the city that we were first originally formed in, Kettering, Ohio.
Do you play live?
Yes we sing for Nursing Homes, churches, festivals, parades, weddings, and dedications. We love to sing and perform. Recently we sang at the Holiday At Home Festival in Kettering, Ohio.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet definitely has widened the audience of music for more people to enjoy all types of music in this land and world wide. It has made music readily available to almost anyone who can afford a computer in their home, or who can visit a local establishment that owns computers like a library.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If we were asked to sign a record contract the chorus board would meet and we would all vote on that decision.
Band History:
We were first founded in the summer of 1990 by the Holiday-at-Home Foundation to provide music at the Holiday-at-Home Festival, in Kettering, Ohio. We were originally called the Kettering Holiday-at-Home Chorus and would perform 6 times during Labor Day weekend. Following the 1993 season, it was mutually agreed to sever that relationship and form what is now called the Kettering Community Chorus. Even though we are called the Kettering Community Chorus we live all over the Miami Valley. We normally have anywhere from 20-25 people in attendance at any one time for practice or performances. We would like to increase those numbers and invite anyone interested to contact us for more information.
Your influences?
We do a variety of music. Each year our director choses several pieces of music to sing for the variety of occasions. This year we are singing several Disney pieces, sacred music, including some spirituals, Irving Berlin and some patriotic pieces. We have done Phantom of the Opera in the past as well as other arrangements, such as these.
Favorite spot?
Any place we sing!
Equipment used:
We use a variety of sound equipment, a piano or keyboard, depending on where we are and what is available and at times we use drums and other percussion type instruments. The main equipment we use is our voices!
Anything else...?
Anyone wishing to schedule a performance may do so by contacting the numbers given in the web site. We are available to sing from June through to October/November for many different events and settings. We do accept tax-deductible contributions.
