  • Started her musical career at age 15 in South Africa

  • Won Best Vocalist and Best Original Song in an inter-high school competition

  • Won Best Original Song at the Youth Harmony Festival

  • Won Best Original Song in a National Songwriting Competition

  • Appeared in many videos, did several radio interviews and played five nationwide tours

  • Obtained #1 slot on local radio stations with her song "White Sugar"

  • Since moving to California in 1994, Niki Smart has changed her musical style and has received some great reviews and was included in the Top Ten Demos of 1995 by Music Connection Magazine. She completed an 8 song CD in 1997.

  • She has opened for the likes of Alannah Myles, The Stranglers, Bobby Caldwell, Vonda Shepard, and Graham Parker. Smart has played at venues throughout Southern California.

  • The title track "Seems So Peculiar" was pick of the week on KEZY Orange County's Home Grown, and track 5 -- "I Climbed The Mountain" was played by Dr. Laura Schlessinger on her syndicated show. "I climbed the Mountain" has also been used in two documentarys (one about a youth shelter and one about breast cancer - "The Jill Eikenberry Story").

  • Smart recieved honors in the 1995 Billboard Songwriting Contest

  • Won the 1996 Spree Songwriting Competetion in Nashville, and was included on their compilation CD

  • Won Best Female Vocalist in the 1996 Best of the Best, Music Scene International Contest

  • Recieved certificate of achievement in the 1997, 2000 and 2001 Unisong Contest

  • Finalist in the 1998 Demo Derby (Online Contest sponsored by Callner Music)

  • Currently nominated for "Female singer/songwriter of the Year" at JPFolks.
