Overview
Michael J. Anthony has been developing as a songwriter for over fifteen years. His quest has taken him from Glasgow, Scotland to the Golden State of California. One of the most popular selling artists on Soundclick, Michael has had five #1 hits and occupied #1 spots for almost two months. He tests his unique brand of folkie introspection and wry humour to local audiences, "Because you need that kind of brutal honesty. When they're invested in your song, they go to a different place. When they're bored, they start talking about the price of gasoline."

On the art of songwriting, Michael is upbeat and expansive. "It's the most liberating form of expression I know. Everyone has important songs in their lives. Ever since I was a kid I wanted stake my claim in this wonderful cultural lexicon."

Influences
Michael got his first musical instrument, a toy keyboard, when he was four. When he was fifteen, Paul Simon songs like "Slip Slidin' Away" and "American Tune" were washing through his head, "And it seemed like the perfect way to reach people, the way these songs reached me."

Everything Michael writes is a statement of truth on some level, whether a catharthic outpouring over a loss or a strident political satire. "The songs are the statements are the songs. Every one of my songs has an emotional context, is layered on a very human canvas, even the ones that are totally silly. That's why when people connect with my music, they love it wholeheartedly. It's real to them. It might make them smile or free them from a prison. I love it."
