I started Derkesthai earlier this year (July 2008) in order to produce music that I couldn't any other way, the tracks I have here are pretty much all improvised on the spot and was recorded using 2 microphones, a 10 watt amp and a tape deck so forgive the "amatureness" of it.
I hope to record some more tracks later on in the year, that better representing what I want to do.
Why this name?
I was searching for something that sounded different yet had a mystical quality about it.
So in a search about dragons, I found this word (which is an ancient germanic word which translates as "dragon's eye") and the symbol (which is a "Y" in side a triangle. The triangle meaning threat and the "Y" meaning a choice between good and evil.)
Do you play live?
I would love to play live, maybe I will try something in the future
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Of course, you'd have to be an idiot to think that it hasn't. I personally use mp3's (only on a myspace or something) to check out a band before I buy something. I am apathetic towards people downloading, I mean I don't download myself, but I don't care if other people do (just as long as it's not mine, sports cars don't buy themselves you know).
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If the deal was right and I wasn't forced to bring out an album every year or them wanting me to change my style or whatever, then yeah, I see know problem with it.
Band History:
Pretty much said what needs to be said in the opening paragraph. I did have many failed bands in the past (in fact the most successful of those projects, only produced some written keyboard parts and a recorded drum track). It's pretty hard finding other people who are willing to give it their all (even harder finding people who live close by with similar music tastes) so I decided to go it myself. Originally the idea for Derkesthai was to be a black metal band but I scrapped that because
a). I suck at guitar.
b). black metal has become over washed with shitty "bands" (most of them put ideology before any musical talent, which a great deal have none and according to the metal archives has over 15,000 bands, so much for anti-popularity. Also for some reason if it doesn't sound sh*** and "raw" it's not black metal according to these pseudo-elitists that seem to love stagnace over musical integrity and creativity) and I didn't want to add anything unless it was worthwhile.
Your influences?
I have many influences from different mediums and from myself
