For many people in the music game the mere thought of making a decent living doing what they love to do will not suffice them. For them the world is simply not enough. They want the money, car and the clothes –all of the trimmings and trappings that success in the rap game brings. As a highly skilled rapper, producer, DJ and graphic artist and entrepreneur Dub-G is more than capable of conquering the world of urban entertainment from all angles. But for the muti-talented Big House Music, LLC recording artist, founder and CEO he will be happy as long as he can make a good living doing what he does best. And that is creating great music. Unlike many young artists who strive for that instant success which can often be no more than a quick flash in the pan-here today gone tomorrow, Dub has honed his myriad of skills and set his sight on longevity.

“If I can keep making the money I make now plus for the next 20 years I’m good,” says Dub-G. “I still reach the young cats as well as the old. Too many people fade out after their big hit and I haven’t hit that mark yet so I’m still running. Plus this is not the only lane I’m in. I own a graphics company, production company and I DJ. I also do guest speaking on industry panels, label consulting and if one lane doesn’t get right I swerve into the other. I’m in all lanes like the pavement. I can fall back on myself and a lot of people can’t do that. “

Dub-G was born Gregory Spencer in Inglewood, California and raised in Pass Christian, Mississippi, a small rural town just ten minutes outside of Gulfport. According to Dub growing up in a small rural town like Pass Christian had its ups and downs. On the positive side the neighborhood he grew up in was very close knit and family orientated. Everybody knew everybody and neighbors looked out for one another. On the negative side because of the poverty and lack of real job opportunities the place provided fertile ground for illegal activity. While Dub’s grandmother did her best to steer him away from such vices it wasn’t long before he, like so many of his peers, fell into the street culture. By 1995, much to his grandmother’s chagrin, Dub-G was active in the lifestyle.

Just when it looked like the street had Dub-G taking a permanent detour down the wrong road that led to a dead end a minor miracle happened. That miracle was hip hop. Introduced to him by a cousin visiting from college hip hop opened Dub-G up to a whole new world filled with beats and rhymes. Dub was inspired by artist such as J.J. Fad, Too $hort, UGK, the Geto Boys, Mystikal, Big Mike, Dayton Family and Fiend. Listening to artists like that sparked Dub-G’s interest in hip-hop and inspired the youngster to start writing his own rhymes. '

However it was the release of Snoop Doggy Dogg’s seminal recording Doggystyle as well as Dr Dre’s classic LP The Chronic that moved Dub-G to go from writing his own raps at home and dreaming of one day recording his own record to actually doing it.

In 2000, Dub-G had pooled his resources together formed Big House Music, learned production, graphic design and released his underground debut LP entitled Datz Me. “I thought I was big time when the CDs got back to my house,” Dub warmly recalls. He sold over 1,000 copies of Datz Me out the trunk of his car. At ten dollars a pop it didn’t take a genius to see that there was real money in the rap game. From there Dub went in on the rap game full steam. In addition to good money Dat’z Me won him critical acclaim in several regional and national magazines including a write up in Murder Dog.

“I only moved 1000 but the impact was like I sold a couple thousand. I was in a lot of magazines and had a lot of shows in Mississippi and Louisiana. I learned a lot about branding off that album because that was the only actual album I released.” In 2003, he dropped an EP called Executive Status and shot a video for the single entitled “Holla At Me.” Both the single and the EP created a significant buzz for him, taking him from being a mere local artist to regional act. Suddenly Dub finds himself working with top notch national and regional artists like David Banner, Mr. Serv-On, Choppa, Beelow and his cousin XVII from UGK Records.

In 2005 tragedy struck in the form of Hurricane Katrina which literally wiped out the entire town of Pass Christian, forcing Dub and his family to relocate to Atlanta, Georgia. “That was a crazy experience for me and my family,” recalls Dub-G. “We were torn apart for a while. We lived all over Atlanta, from the eastside trap spots to the big house where we are now. Thank God we pulled through it all.” Once settled in Atlanta Dub wasted no time making his presence known. He started doing production and graphics for various underground Atlanta artist. As word about Dub’s skills got around he soon found himself with a long list of steady clients willing for his services. He also got involved in the mix tape game and launched his own mix tape series called Gorillaz In Da Trunk under moniker DJ Big House. His work as a DJ made him popular that soon many of the South top underground artists asked him to host their mix tapes plus do guest appearances on tracks.

Just when it seemed like Dub-G had fell into a comfort zone of being a sought after producer/graphic artists he was inspired to step back into the rap arena. Recently he released the hit single “Ten Toes In Da Game” from his upcoming album “In All Lanes.” With production done by Cyber Sapp, Nesia Beats, Heartbeatz, Big K.R.I.T and guest appearances by XVII, Bankroll Jones and Big Bubb the LP contains hot beats and tight rhymes woven into gripping tales of street drama as well as some records that are outright fun to listen to. Both the album and mix tape promises to be one of the year’s hottest records.

“I’m a story teller. Regardless of the content you can follow what I say and have a visual for my verses. I try to keep it as real as I can and talk about what I know and do but not fall into the everyday rap about money, women and trapping. I was raised on substance and that’s what I give out.”
