We're a five-piece emocore outfit hailing from Racine, Wisconsin. We're hard-working, passionate, creative and want this to be our lives. Our dedication drives us to put our band in front of all things; we are a family and want nothing less than success. Each of us brings distinct stylistic and creative influences into a sound we feel is all our own and has something for everybody.
Why this name?
The lead vocalist, Matt, was thinking up band names a few years ago, just for the heck of it, and came up with this. He assumed he'd never be in a band, so he made it into his email. The band used to be called Fifth District, but when Matt joined they decided to change their name. They liked "Dear Marla" and it became the official name.
Do you play live?
Yes. Anywhere. It's the best part about being in a band. Sure, come to our website, www.dearmarla.com, and read about them.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The RIAA may have to lower prices to compete, but will resist. The Internet has stared it in the face and only til disaster hit the RIAA did they realize what had been happening under their noses this whole time, and are now suing 12 year old girls who live in the projects in response. DIY labels aren't suing kids for stealing their tunes; it only allows them greater proliferation of their bands. The RIAA doesn't care about music, it's only a money machine now. However, they are a company, and are out to turn a profit, so I guess in the end you can't blame them, even if they are being giant pooheads.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yep. They have the radio and MTV.
