The Melted Rubber Humans are an experimental electronica/ IDM outfit, with post-punk sensibilities. Their music is influence by artists as diverse as Syd Barrett, Cabaret Voltaire, PIL, This Heat, The Orb, The Lemon Kitten, Samlas Mammas Manna and Underworld.
Why this name?
Back in 1979 Elspeth Gibson, Christine Gibson and me decided we would form a band. We got as far as deciding on a name, The Melted Rubber Humans... which was from, I believe, The Beano, when Little Plum said "look, a melted rubber human". The only problem was that none of us could play an instrument. Christine Gibson did eventually learn to play bass guitar, and had a stint with legendary Glasgow band, "The Wee Cherubs". I also eventually learned to play guitar, but not very well. However, my musical ambitions were finally realised 28 years later, with the discovery of Sony Acid and Adobe Audition. It was in the memory of my first ever band, which never actually was a band, that I gave The Melted Rubber Humans their deserved renaissance.
Do you play live?
Nope, strictly bedsit compositions.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It has totally democratised it.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Only in my dreams. No major label would touch me.
Band History:
I think I pretty much covered the band history above, except to say that The Melted Rubber Humans wrote their first track in November 2007, a rough little track called, "Coming Down To Ground".
