Beau Smith
NEWS
I uploaded my music to Myspace. Psyched about that. I guess it's not that big a deal, but I love the web. I've got a podcast, my sculpture site, an IM (Internet marketing) tutorial site. I'm into it.

I'm a one man band. Singer songwriter. I'm also a visual artist. For the past twenty years I've made my bread making human-sized copper frogs which you can see at my beautifulfrog.com site. Google "Beau Smith frog". You'll find me.
I've been doing music as long as I've been making visual art. I'm an all-around artist. I write, paint, sculpt, play music. Hey, I even make a living making art - frog sculptures. Well, sometimes I make a living. More often than not, these days.
Besides being totally into art, I'm totally into the web. I discovered after the couple of disastrous times I played out that it's easier to make music in my studio and broadcast it through the net. Unless I make it big somehow, that's the way I plan to do it. Even if I ever did "make it", however that would happen, I'd probably still spend a good deal of my time in the studio and on the web. Nerds on guitar. This is a possible name for a band. I don't think I'll call it that. How about "Good Wood"? I've always thought that was a good name.

Why this name?
I haven't chosen a band name. I'm Beau Smith, AKA Charles Smith, AKA Tutorial Joe. If I ever did choose a name, possibly "Good Wood" as I mentioned. Definitely not "Nerds on Guitar". When I was a teenager (a loooong time ago) I thought "Alchemy". I don't know how many bands have that name. Surely quite a few. And excuse me for calling you Shirly. You saw "Airplane" too I imagine. Airplane one, actually. Please excuse my silliness. I'm giddy. I'm not always that way, though. Check me out on Twitter. I'm not always giddy. I do like to gab. Perhaps you noticed that. My songs, however, are not gabby. Well most of them aren't.
Do you play live?
I don't play live, although, my recordings have a live flavor. A raw flavor even maybe. I do Tae Kwon Do. I thought of making a CD with a picture of me in my Gi doing a form and calling the CD "Ruff Kuts".
See I like the whole upload on the web thing. I like the podcast, quickly get the info down there (I would insert dashes between all these words but I'm too lazy to do that.), immediate digitization and virtualization of media thing. So though I do not play out and do not relish doing so, I do offer fresh tracks.

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Awsome, man... Well I think... Oh man, what do I say? You know?
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
You betcha. Maybe I don't know any better, but I think, yeah, sure. Of course. Good PR if nothing else.
Band History:
Well, I met me when I was but a kid... Alright. I don't have a band. It's just me. I'm happy to play with other musicians. If you are making music, other musicians can get with that. As far as chemistry... I manufacture that all myself, I guess. I'm not going to take this any further than that.
Your influences?
Folk rock, pop rock, blues. Are we search engine friendly yet? I was born in '61. Hey, could be the begining to a song. Okay, not. I'm a sixties child. Sixties and seventies. Beatles, then onto Talking Heads, B-52s I might say because I know one of them. I have a beat but I must admit I am not dance music. A balladeer? A lyricist? Sure... I fit my own category. Singer/songwriter, in the grand tradition of singer/songwriters.
Favorite spot?
I'm going to say Joshua Tree. I had an important experience there.
Equipment used:
Fender Strat, Martin acoustic, Sonar 4, a nice computer. That's basically it.
Anything else...?
I think I should have put much of the everything else that I put in other categories here in miscelaneous (sp?). Did I say I make human-sized copper frogs for a living? Yeah, I said that.
My podcast is about art and spirituality, pretty fascinating stuff if I do say so myself, which I just did. The Science of Originality, I call it. You can get to it through my sculpture site at beautifulfrog.com, or you can Google Science of Originality. It's inspiring material.
