Why this name?
I came up with the name MASSAKA (MASSACRE) because a couple of my homeboys said that every time they hear me on a song I murder, mangle, and mutilate the beat. So I wanted to have something that represented where I was from "MASS", so I came up with the name MASSAKA. I spell it the way I do because MASS for the state, then I always go by my nick names so MASS A-K-A The Alien, Mass Maniac, Johnny Handsome, Johnny Rotten, Microphone Mangler, etc.
Do you play live?
I play anywhere I can get an opening at. Performing on a cruise ship was probably the most fun I've ever had, plus I've also performed in Panama City for spring break and also a club called "Congo" in Cancun, Mexico.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think its affected the music industry but its also helped it in many ways. It allowed for underground artists not only in Hip-Hop but rock also get noticed and spread the word across the world with their talents so I bless the internet and the whole mp3 downloading because with that there's been a lot of great talented artists that I've found whether threw myspace, facebook, ursession, or back in the day just downloading random artists off Napster. I was the first person in my town where I lived at the time to start listening to Tech N9ne back in like 98' because of that. Then four years later he blows up more then he ever was. So this whole downloading thing don't bother me one bit.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If the deal was right absolutely. Some people get caught up like you sell out when you sign to a label but thats not necessarily true. Depending on the circumstance some labels can be medicine and help cure you, but yeah others can also try and poison you.
Your influences?
Crooked I, Tech N9ne, Joe Budden, Eminem, Redman & Method Man, Big Pun, Big L, and those are just a few of the many people I respect in the Hip-Hop game.
