Fuze is a rock/jazz band from the Detroit area. Heavy guitars and loose beats dominate this fusion band. Very spontaneous and a lot of fun, this is not your smooth jazz, but a dynamic range of music from melodic ballads to hard funkin jams.
Why this name?
The drummer (a.k.a. Marki) came up with the name during one of the Saturday Night Jams. We all feel the name represents the style of music we play which is really a fusion of all the musical experiences we have shared over the years.
Do you play live?
Fuze plays live mostly in Joe's basement studio, but the shows are broadcasted live on the internet in Real Audio. If you are from the Detroit area, you may see them occasionally play around town.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The interenet along with dropping prices on music recording equipment has opened a new door to the independent musician. Many musicians can now afford to produce their own music and market it to their niche audience without the need to hit mass appeal.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Probably not until they change the terms to be more of a partnership than a slaveowner. Fuze will always consider various ways to promote their music, but it is unlikely they would ever sell the rights to the music.
Band History:
Fuze started out as a Saturday Night Jam for musicians in the Detroit area and has grown into a band with a CD full of fusion rock/jazz songs.
Your influences?
Fusion rock/jazz such as Jeff Beck, Santana, Frank Zappa, Alan Holdsworth, Pat Metheney, Steely Dan. Also heavily influenced by progressive rock bands like Yes and Rush. John Madeski has had an impact on Joe's keyboard slammin.
Favorite spot?
The Detroit local music scene is a really happening thing even if you must move around the area to find out what is going on. Many small venues with great live talent can be found througout the city and suburbs.
