We're the "house" band on "It's Alive!" - a local television show in Pittsburgh which we write, produce, and star in (www.theitsaliveshow.com). On top of that, we're the organizing force behind Zombie Fest, World Zombie Day, and we proudly hold the Guinness Book of World Records for Largest Zombie Gathering in October of '08 @ historic Monroeville Mall (where George Romero's "Dawn of the Dead" was filmed). Not bad for a bunch of idiots.
Why this name?
We ran through a few different names, some of which we may use as aliases in the future, but DEATHMOBILE seemed to be just stupid enough to convey the sheer mass of our gigantic balls coupled with our total lack of seriousness. I mean, c'mon - what's better than when the Eat Me float busts apart to reveal the Deathmobile? Huh? I ask you! Huh?
Do you play live?
Yes, indeed. Our live shows are never the same twice. We've set clowns on fire, faked arguments, and changed someone's grandmother's diaper on stage. You never know what'll happen from one show to the next.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Completely. No more parasitic industry toll-booths. Far fewer ways for you to get gypped outta what's yours. It's beyond goodness.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Only under extremely specific conditions. No "baby band" bullshit contracts, and no 360 wrapper deals, that's for goddamn' sure! The days of the wide-eyed artist getting ass-raped by the industry sharks are pretty much over, except for the very, very naive.
Band History:
Prof and I (Pointy) have been working together off and on since Martin Van Buren was President. The TV show (www.theitsaliveshow.com) really started out as an excuse to play some music on television. Since then the show has grown and branched out into live events, recording, commercial spot production, charity work, and Guinness Book of World Records for Largest Zombie Gathering in 2006 & 2007. In 2008, we put together World Zombie Day with the participation of over 50 cities from around the world! DEATHMOBILE's debut CD was released on Halloween 2007 and is available @ CD Baby (www.cdbaby.com). You can get a downloadable copy for $5 there, or you can download some of our songs here on Soundclick for 75 cents a piece, or as a 7-song EP for a measley $2.99! "Blood Buckets" is a freebie!!!
Your influences?
I think you can sum us up by putting Primus, Rammstein, Living Colour, and Guns 'n' Roses with Buckethead in a meatloaf, add a succulent Zappa glaze, and Mr. Bungle as a wafer-thin after dinner mint. Andy Kaufman as Mr. Creosote, of course.
Favorite spot?
Personally, I (Pointy) love NYC, The Prof is a fan of Napa Valley.
Equipment used:
I use Carvin guitars (2 2008 DC727s, a 1989 DC150, a 1987 Ultra V, a 1993 DC127, a 2004 SC90, and a 1998? T60), an Engl Screamer 50, an Engl Fireball, an Engl e530 preamp into a Mesa Stereo 2:50, an Egnater Rebel 20, and Geezer custom cabinets. Prof uses Ibanez & ESP guitars and Mesa amplification.
Anything else...?
New material soon. Define "soon"? Sorry, no can do. We found a fretless bass player who fits well with us, and found a drummer who has the same level of uniqueness and personality. We're writing for the next CD now...
