Why this name?
We kicked around a few different names amongst the group and landed on The Network..We added the "Mighty" to make it stick out in people's heads a little bit.
Do you play live?
Yes, we've been doing shows consistently since we've been together as a group. We've opened up for major acts, done open mics, been on promotional tours throughout the southeast United States. We try to perform as much as possible. Every show has its special moments, because the goal at every performance is to showcase your music and hopefully reach out to a new fan, and at the same time, remind your existing fans of why they listen to your music. Just to be able to perform your music on stage is a special moment in itself.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It helps create opportunity for independent artist to compete. The internet is an inexpensive way to market and promote yourself. It provides easier access for the fans. An artist can interact with their fans and get immediate feedback. Its another form of grassroots marketing and the major labels are cashing in on it too. For those who take advantage, it can be a valuable tool...
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It just depends on whats in the best interest of the group. If the numbers add up, and its a good situation for us, why not?
Band History:
Hip-Hop has been blessed with a select few groups that combine the
essence of the underground, with the diversity to reach the masses.
These special groups only come around every so often, and now is the time for
The Mighty Network. The Mighty Network consists of three artists (Redcoat, Sleep, &
Dubb) that met while attending Savannah State University. Through loose
affiliations and mutual connections, they became first and foremost,
friends. "We started out as just being a crew, kicking it and having a
good time" says Dubb. " We had a mutual love for the music and the group
kinda just came together." Redcoat, who had been recording with another group,
had already established himself as an lyricist. When he and his group went there separate ways, Redcoat embarked on his solo career and the idea of a putting together another group began to appeal to him. " I had recorded a track with Sleep before and I always had a feeling Dubb could rap" remembers Redcoat. "It wasn't that much of a conscious decision to put together the group. We were together pretty much everyday vibing to the music, it just made sense." The next step was putting together a studio that they could work out of. Piece by piece, the fellas put together what little money they had and the studio began to take shape. The magic was happening.Songs were being crafted that had vintage soul, with a refreshing style
layered on top. "We were making music that was real, something that people could hold on to and be proud of" says Sleep. The Mighty Network was introduced on
Redcoat's critically acclaimed solo album "Anti-Establishment" and the
public was receptive. The follow up to "Anti-Establishment" was TheMighty
Network, "Str8 Out da Trunk, Vol.1" which turned out to be somewhat of
a collector's item due to there being limited copies pressed up. Fans who
were able to get their hands on it were not dissappointed. The blend of old
school samples and original beats was a breath of fresh air when
combined with the honest, thought-provoking lyrics the group has become known for.
The crowd reaction at the group's live performances is an indicator of the respect the group has earned. "We don't necessarily have the fans that just go crazy when they see us, its more like our fans look us in the eye and kinda nod their head in approval" says Dubb. "They come up to us and shake our hands and share personal experiences they've had with the music. Its a connection and its genuine." Since the release of Redcoat's second critically-acclaimed album, "Man Below the Mason Dixon"featuring The Mighty Network, the group has continued to earn new fans. "One fan a day" saysSleep. "Thats how we do it. We go out here and try to earn one fan a day." After almost a decade together, there are no indications of the group
slowing down. The release of the highly anticipated sophomore album
from The Mighty Network has caused such a buzz in the streets and on the
internet, fans have been requesting advanced copies and singles for months. "We
definitely appreciate the fans anticipation" says Redcoat, grinning
proudly. "But we can't rush it. We are putting this album together piece by
piece. We're adding the finishing touches as we speak, and I guarantee the
people won't be disappointed." With a diverse sound that represents the group
members different backgrounds, the music is sure to appeal to the masses,
regardless of geography, class, or race. " We are all from different
places" explains Dubb. "I traveled alot but was raised in the DC/MD/VA area,
Sleep lived in Cleveland, then moved to Marrieta. Red spent time in Memphis,Tennesee then moved to Warner Robins, GA.Then we all ended in Savannah.
Those experiences, plus the feeling of brotherhood that we share, thats what makes
up the The Mighty Network." And mighty, they shall be.....
