As a Southern California singer-songwriter, John Clinebell's music evokes the classic SoCal sounds of the 1970's while also reflecting his modern Pop-Rock influences. Close your eyes as you listen to his debut album, Stomping Grounds, and you may conjure up images of Hollywood's famous Sunset Strip era in the early '70s, when amazing singer songwriters such as The Eagles, Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, and James Taylor regularly showcased their songs at classic rock clubs such as The Troubadour and The Whiskey A Go Go. Open your eyes to hear the contemporary influences of fellow singer-songwriters like John Mayer, Ray LaMontagne, and Pablo Nutini in the smart lyrics, tightly-crafted songs, and soaring melodies.

The Stomping Grounds album runs the gamut from Pop-Rock to Alt-Country to Indie-Pop. Highlights include:

-The amped-up opening cut, Yellow Valentines, which rocks from start to finish, giving Alt-Country fans of The Jayhawks, Old 97s, and Son Volt a comfortable listening zone.

-Fans of singer-songwriters such as Dave Matthews, Jason Mraz, Ben Harper, and Jack Johnson will surely want to check out the contemplative second track, Number, as it builds to a crescendo in each chorus section.

-Throughout the course of listening to Stomping Grounds you will hear that the artist is just as comfortable singing a stripped-down, agonizing acoustic ballad like The End, as he is belting out a hard-rocking, bluesy pop tune like Hard Love.

-Fans of catchy pop storytelling will want to immediately spin Bailey and Ferris Wheel to appreciate the blissful highs-and-lows we all encounter in relationships in a way that does musical justice to that complex ride.

-In contrast, a simple mantra and memorable melody are the only ingredients necessary to communicate the positive spiritual message of No Time Away.

Listen to the songs and sounds of Stomping Grounds unfiltered... through the life lens of John's view of Pacific Ocean beaches, beautiful weather, urban bliss, and good vibes - all found in Santa Monica, California.

Why this name?
It was the band name I was born with.
Do you play live?
I live in peace and harmony. Inside. I like it. Every moment is special.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It makes it hard for people with talent to get noticed.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Only if I got a bowl of red M&Ms in the dressing room of each venue while on tour.
