“It brings out a side of me that is usually kept deep down within” says Artist, Songwriter Ray-mo while reflecting on his reason for performing. “I’m usually a straight forward person and have no problem saying what’s on my mind. But when I can express what/how I’m feeling through a song, it has a deeper impact on my audience and myself for that matter” states the Prince George’s County, Maryland native. Born and raised on the outskirts of Washington D.C. Ray-mo has no problem reppin P.G. County to the fullest. To him D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) are ONE. And he has all the confidence in the world to prove that he can add to the driving force that is now making the DMV a movement to be reckoned with in the music industry.

The product of a singing family and the cousin of Jazz singer Tracy Hamlin(DMH Records, LLC) Ray-mo grew up singing in the church, as many r&b artist have. He would compare himself to numerous people singing solos and would confidently claim himself to be the better candidate for the job. But due to his shy and macho personality at the time he never built up the courage to step forward and go through with it. “LOL I mean…I played football all my life…I always looked at singin as bein soft and for suckas!!! But now..LOOK AT ME!!! Lol.” He’s then quick to state that though he sings, he neither soft nor a sucker. Eventually Ray-mo took to his love for football over music which he excelled in. He earned numerous honors and accolades but had to overcome the obstacle of being label as “Too small” by college scouts, weighing in at 155lbs coming out of high school. He beat the odds and landed a spot on the Virginia State University football team. It was there where he met then transfer, Wale (Interscope recording artist & D.C. native) in his sophomore year and was acknowledged for his voice. He encouraged Ray-mo to pursue his musical talent and to come out of his shell. This lead him to perform at every chance he got at events on campus and numerous open mic nights within the Metropolitan area. He then tried out for a singing competition at his college called “The Trojan idol” his senior year. He won over the 2,000 plus student and staff audience in attendance when he song Stevie Wonder’s “Knocks me off my feet” accompanied by an acoustic and electric guitar. He was named the 1st ever Virginia State “Trojan Idol” which is now a competition that occurs every year at the college since he graduate in may of 2007.
Ray-mo had always written poetry but after his football career was over and he decided to fully concentrate on music, his poetry turned into songs. Smooth, mellow ballads in which he spoke in detail on subjects left only to the imagination of the ordinary person. Subjects such as what women look for in a man, or vice versa. The comparison of a man’s “first time,” to a women’s. How, often couples..“Break up, to make up,” ect. As he progressed in his writing he was able to rise above the many ballads he was use to writing and become more versitile. Adapting to what it was that would catch the audience’s ear. Whether fast pace, mid-tempo, or slow songs Ray-mo has composed and performed them all. He has opened for numerous recording artist and a year after his graduation, is hitting the streets wit his newly released demo INTRO 2 RAY-MO. Headed by his hit single “Tabletop” in reference to the type of females with a backside rotund enough to sit a cup on without it dropping. Something males can relate to and females can claim they posses while shaking their butts in the club. Followed by another original “2nite” and two songs originally recorded by Usher and Trey Songs but given its own RAY-MO twist in “Nice & Slow & Finesse” and “Just gotta make it (to you).”

Since the LIFE incarceration of his older cousin, who was like a brother to him, while Ray-mo was a merely ten years old he’s made it his priority to rise above the “Ordinary” and shoot for the stars. In an area such as the DMV where people are FIERCLY hated on for being different, Ray-mo is welcoming on all challenges. And once again, with his LEO “Confidence and strong determination,” feels nothing or no one will stand in his way in accomplishing what he has set out to do. Which is “Making THE WORLD love me.” His style has been compared to a mixture of Jamie Foxx, Tank, Ginuwine and Trey Songz. But he won’t hesitate to proclaim those artist, including Stevie Wonder, Michale Jackson, Prince, Joe, Raheem Devaughn and R.Kelly as being his main influences. He goes by “Ray-mo”…. in case you didn’t know….so get ready to fall in love with sensual voice, layed back appearance, his welcoming and comedic personality along with his frank lyrics. Cuz u aint met “REAL” until u came across the Artist that is.... Ray-mo!!!!!!
