I am a self-taught classical guitarist and have been inspired by some of the great masters of Europe. My European heritage and family history are part of the reason for my becoming a musician.
I first became interested in music when at the age of five I collected my father's wooden cigar boxes, strung rubber bands around them, and made my first musical instrument. When I was nine, my parents bought me an old beat up banjo guitar with strings that could hardly be pressed down by my small fingers. Noting how much time I spent trying to master even this old worn-out instrument, they gave me my first new guitar the following Christmas.
I quickly began to excel, and at the age of 13, I started to arrange simple folk tunes such as "Greensleeves". I explored new horizons by joining a rock band "The Earls " and various folk groups. I began to develop my own unique guitar style.
Why this name?
My name was suggested by a friend of mine (Andy Dallas). Since I play classical/renaissance guitar, I thought that it was quite befitting. Although some people seem to associate it with “the prince of thieves” I much rather consider myself as a musician misplaced in time…
Do you play live?
I used to. - My friend Arthur P.H. Kirmss and I performed renaissance music throughout NYC for many years. We had lots of great memories and met other interesting musician on the way. Some of them were definitely not from this time. Now I am more into writing music...
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Since I'm a "Baby-Boomer" I remember one time I had an interview with one of the guys at "Hansa Studios" in Berlin, Germany. They told me that my songs were great but not marketable for the audience. You have to come up with whatever sells at that time.
This gave me a pretty good idea of my chances of producing an album. -
Now, with recording software and mp3 downloads it has become easier to show your talents without the profit margins...
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
What are the chances? I really don't know.
Your influences?
Although, there are a lot of different styles of music, I have to say that my music will be appreciated by people who like a lot of melody (1960's).
Since my repertoire is widely spread between classical and contemporary, I really don't know who likes what?
Favorite spot?
Preferably, under a shady Tree where I can play my guitar without being burned to a crisp...
Equipment used:
A Classical Guitar and a Computer to record my music.
Anything else...?
All the questions posted are great. -
The truth is, I like a peaceful environment where I can create and be happy. I give all my thanks to God! Without his grace I would not be able to do anything...
