I am 19 years old, and have loved hip hop since the 3rd grade. My motivation is simple. Nas said it best: "hip hop is dead," and when I think of guys like Soulja Boy and Hurricane Chris getting record deals just for making people dance, I sit back and can't help but wonder why people label it as hip hop/rap. I'm not knocking their hustle, kudos to them because they're doing their thing, but I'm just not a fan of their music. Wouldn't mind meeting them both someday because they seem like cool people. Anyways, I'm here to resurrect hip hop from 6 feet under, but I can't do it alone. I'm just here to bring good music to the people without cursing, violent lyrics and any other unnecessary elements that don't belong in our music. Music is the way of the people, and I see the way some songs are corrupting people. Hip-hop used to be fun, but now it's all about guns, riches, and women. We have to change our ways to see a brighter tomorrow. I'm still in the process of writing some songs and making some beats. It's kinda difficult since I am not experienced in beat making (I am still learning). I do however write rhymes, and hopefully I can use my art for the good of mankind someday. Mohandas Gandhi once said "Be the change that you want to see in the world." This is where the change begins: with me. Thanks for looking at my page.
Why this name?
It all started when I moved from NY to GA. I didn't know anyone. I made a few friends but none that I could really just kick it with outside of school all the time. I usually went to the movies, and the mall and to the park or wherever by myself. I always used to see myself as being solo for dolo or alone for self. Solo just defined me, and since a child, the 5 point star has always been my favorite shape, and a star was just what I wanted to be in life. So the two just went well together for me.
Do you play live?
Not yet, but hopefully soon
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It brings down record sales with the simplicity of being able to download your favorite artist's songs instead of buying them. But if used correctly, the internet can be a valuable marketing tool used to generate more fans and revenue for that artist.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It depends. I would love to get a deal just to know that I am that much closer to my dream of bringing good music to the people and getting my message out. But then again I wouldn't want a record company to try to reshape me into their image just so I could sell more records for them and make more money for them because I am not in this just for the money. To me, the money is a bonus. I really want to help change the world for the better through music
Your influences?
I look up to old school greats who are still in the game like Nas, LL Cool J, Talib Kweli and Mos Def. I also look at new school greats like Canadian rapper Drake. Also, my friend LJ aka DJ Twilight inspired me to start making beats and get a myspace music page. I'm just another step closer to getting into the rap game, but not just for the fame and fortune, but to help my struggling generation, and the generations to come...
Favorite spot?
Favorite city is NYC without a doubt. I miss it to the fullest and go back every chance I get.
Equipment used:
a pen, a notebook, my inspiron 6000 laptop, FL Studio 4, and my mic and ghetto pop screen lol
Anything else...?
You will see my name in lights someday =] peace
