Cyrus Eye is a two member band consisting of a DJ and a lyricist. Our roots stem deep into Hip Hop, Jazz, Neo Soul and Reggae. We stay free of vulgarity.
Why this name?
It's sort of a play on thought. Cyrus overthrew Babylon and Eye in this case implies an all seeing state of mind, always on top of what's going on in the Hip Hop and Dancehall cultures.
Do you play live?
We play live.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet has made it possible for people to wrap their ears around styles and artistic expressions that may have otherwise been inaccessable previously.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Most likely not. This is a hobby for us, however, if we were to, it would depend on what the offer is and what type of role we'll actually play in the deliverance and managment of the groups atristry.
Band History:
I started out with a group called 3-fold in Bridgeport Connecticut. 3Fold consisted of my DJ AM Sunshine, then known as Al Mizz; C-Boogie (of Sure Shots), then known as Hype-C; and myself, the known as IQ. Unfortunately that group dissolved over time and the leading member (C-Boogie) collaberated with our Cats in the band called TriStateofMind (consisting of AM Sunshine and Regg Lo). DJ AM Sunshine from TriStateofMind is also in Cyrus Eye and is the founder of the whole concept behind "the Eye".
Your influences?
I'd say a lot of my Hip Hop influence stems from A Tribe Called Quest, Mos Def and Talib Kweli, Common, Rakim, etc. The Dancehall aspect would give credit to the likes of Beenie man, Bounty Killa' and Ele. The Neo Soul love would be Amel Larrieux, Sade, Adriana Evans, Maxwell, Remy Shand, etc...
Favorite spot?
New York, but of course. Mainly Manhattan, Greenwich Village and City Island, Bronx. Now that I live in Florida, though, I'd say South Beach is on the top of the list.
Equipment used:
Me, personally, Just The Mic. Al Mizz rocks the turntables, mixers, and madd old records.
Anything else...?
