The Trouble With November
I think often times the best way art can confront is to be beautiful in an ugly world. Whether this is confrontational, I do not know. Also, I have no idea what this is about or who Camille is. I suggest you find your own answers.

About the song
Wandering around the garage in early summer of 1987, playing around, somehow this came to me. I wrote and programmed a drum part and was going to record it when I decided to pester my friend, Dan Clucas, and I drug my gear over to his place and we recorded a version of this. The trumpet and bass parts are his, which is why he gets a writing credit.
This is essentially unchanged over more than 20 years, except I have added the acoustic guitar middle (I love middle breaks, and have to be careful not to overuse them) and the saxophones. I have to be careful about not using horns too much too. I suppose I could sit down with the words, go through them and try to determine what it is about. But right now, I must confess I haven't a clue.

Lyrics
THE TROUBLE WITH NOVEMBER
words by c.h.featherstone
music by c.h.featherstone & Dan Clucas
there's a certain air that's hung
like a portrait on a cracking wall
the same airs you put on that barely even fit
and when it's cold in the late time of the year
the air freezes to your skin
you become the rocks in your scotch and soda
yes sweet Camille, that's why it snows
and in some parts it never ever goes away
yes sweet Camille, sometimes it gets dark
and some places never see the light of day
thanksgiving arrives
comes with it pilgrim's memoirs
stories of winters of falling leaves and cold gray skies
battleship gray with sixteeninch guns
to blow right into next year
a nice place to be if this one makes you uneasy
yes sweet Camille, that's why it snows
and in some parts it never ever ever melts
yes sweet Camille, that's the trouble with November
the cute cardboard turkeys and the pumpkins made of felt
