As DJ Gawd, I mostly rework the products of others, focusing mainly on chopping and screwing. A lot of screw enthusiasts will throw a bi***fit at a DJ claiming they chop and screw, because that's what DJ Screw (RIP) called it, and its 'biting'. I say it IS what DJ Screw did, so why would I try to change the name and pretend its my own concept? I pay tribute where its due. Others say some group from St Pete's Florida did it before Screw. Even if they did, Screw made it big and is an icon to the style. So as a DJ, I make chopped and SCREWED music.
Why this name?
Funny story. I hate when people use purposefully misspelled words in their name. I was known in my circle for having the most knowledge of underground hip-hop among several things, so they started calling me God. I felt a lil blasphemous, so I changed it to Gawd as a joke, and being a horrorcore fan, I was Gawd Sadist online for a while. That was when I got most known, and a lot of people came to know me as Gawd. So I only kept it was the DJ name because it was a name a lot of people already knew.
Do you play live?
I've performed OTHER forms of art live, yet to ever DJ live. Other than parties.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It switches the game a lot, and it gives a huge opportunity to artists to promote more than they ever could before, but it also puts them in a huge cesspool of shitty artists. We have to work harder as musicians now to stand out, but we have a lot more tools that are more readily available to help us to do so.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Almost instantly. Would depend on the contract though.
Your influences?
