FCP is not so much a band in the "performing" musical sense........more like a "band" of various talents in the songwriting arena.
Why this name?
FCP stands for FAT CHANCE PUBLISHING. I thought it was fairly cool and an accurate description for success in this whacky biz.
Do you play live?
Personally, no. I discovered it isn't like riding a bike. I can't seem to get the guitar close enough to my body to play it standing up anymore. :) However, Mark Lightcap IS currently performing live with his band BAD DADDY.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The fact that our music can be presented to so many in a few clicks of a mouse is a true testament of how mp3 and the www has changed the business. SoundClick is a classic example. Who woulda thunk it? Thousands of Independent songs running the charts and hundreds of thousands listening? If anything will change the industry, this is it.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Not being a performing artist, the question is moot. However, the majority (if not all) of the people struggling to make it in the business would probably jump at the chance. A few years down the road, who could say?
Band History:
Long ago, in a garage far, far away........(heavy sigh). However, that's just me. Mark Lightcap resurrected his band from the '70's, Uther Pendragon. Larry Lynum has been involved in so many arenas in the industry over the years; booking agent, production, song writing, recording, name it- he's probably done it. Last I heard from Daniel Weitzman he was working on high end musicals. Robert Hecker has over a hundred LOC registrations including screenplays. Make no mistake, these are very talented individuals. I am honored beyond words.
Your influences?
That's tough because my influences appear to be subtle in today's markets. My favorites forever: Billy Ocean, Robert Palmer, Bonnie Raitt, Eagles, Billy Joel, Bob Seger, Beatles. My all time favorites, maybe not evident in my work, maybe more evident than I realize. Stronger country influences are noticeable in Larry, Jim's, and Robert's works. Mark has a solid country edge, but he runs the gauntlet with his music. We at FCP have found that a solid producer is the one that interprets the genre and the overall sound for work we present. We all share the "Let's try this and see what happens" approach.
Favorite spot?
Granbury, Texas in the Old Town Square. Heaven on earth.
