Accentus is sound. The meaning is perfectly exemplified when one hears the Hamilton-based band perform. Accentus creates a myriad of sound that reaches across all styles of music to craft a unique portrayal of alternative rock.
It was with diversity in mind when Accentus formed the current lineup in the fall of 2002. Accentus consists of James Cheetham as songwriter and rhythm guitarist, Chris Mitchell as singer, songwriter and bass guitarist, Tim Connolly as drummer and Todd Guindon as singer, songwriter and guitarist.
Each member brings his own sound to the band as Connolly brings a funk background, Mitchell incorporates a Top 40/pop feel, Cheetham throws in a raw edge with straight rock while Guindon brings in a mixture of blues and rock. Together they generate a style, which flows from funk to pop rock.
“ They are blending rock and funk roots together and creating a music perfectly suited to crank up at parties,” said Carl Jennings, producer of Accentus’ debut full-length CD.
“ The vocals have a modern attitude which lends to straight up cool songs.”
The soaring guitar riffs and pounding, soul trembling drums add to the vocals, which personify honest rock with a hint of mischievousness in the lyrics.
The songs range from upbeat, buoyant music to slower, solid yet mature beats. ‘Nasty’ resonates melodic funk with sharp guitar while ‘Faithful’ uses driving guitar to breathe fun into today’s music.
With diversity embodied, Accentus now strives for musical integrity. This means performing a live show to meet anyone’s expectations and beyond what is heard on disc. To date, the band has performed throughout Hamilton and Toronto, including charity events.
With diversity and integrity accompanying the band’s presence, Accentus is set to release its debut self-titled CD. The resulting kaleidoscope of music is rare for a first album.
Before its release, Accentus had over 300 copies of the album pre-ordered by fans and word-of-mouth is still spreading like brushfire about this band's multiplicity.

Why this name?
Latin for 'Sound"
Do you play live?
Yes, such venue's as Lee's Palace, Clintons, The Foundation, The Casbah, The Underground. We love to play live and have a wicked live show.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's an ocean of bands and music. Too Much to sift through in my opinion. Unless you're known it may be difficult to find bands you like. Although, I also think it's great for bands who are trying to get their music out. Live, interactive, shows is where it's at though.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, depending on the details of course.
Band History:
We've spent the last 12 months playing, writing, rehearsing, recording....Developing overall basically. Now our new album is out.
Your influences?
Everything from The Police, Led Zeppelin, SRV, Albert King, Funk, Pop, Reggae. Tonnes of styles.
Favorite spot?
Northern Ontario.
