I am Al-Dog aka Dat "DOWN SOUTH" Producer. I hail from Little Rock, Arkansas aka 'Da Rocktown'. I produce mainly hip hop tracks, but also R&B, Rock, and other genres. I'm also looking to get into producing music for video games, commercials, movies, and more. My sound is colorful and melodic. Most of my music is reminiscent of different scenarios; such as sitting on the shore watching the beach; riding in a car with the sound blasting on a sunny day; standing on the corner hustling; just whatever you can imagine.
Why this name?
At the time I made the name, a lot of producers were calling themselves Super Producers. I wanted to be a lil different, so I figured, "I'm from down south, and I'm a producer.....I'm Dat "DOWN SOUTH" (say it with emphasis) Producer".
Do you play live?
I used to play live drums in church, and I sometimes would play piano live. But now I'm focusing on making the music for artists and other things.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I feel like the internet gives people access to individuals who they otherwise would not have access to. I done heard good music from states in the U.S. that no one ever thinks of, i.e. Idaho.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, depending on the terms. I'm a producer, so I feel that contacts are more important to my success.
Band History:
My dudes call me Al-Dog, and tha ladies call me Al, but YOU can just call me Dat "DOWN SOUTH!" Producer. I been beating on thangs since I was 3. I started creating original music when I was 11, with my lil Casio keyboard, lol. My sound became fuller when I was 16, using my Yamaha DJX. And then...in 2003 my sound became professional when I purchased the Yamaha Motif. I took 2 years of beginning piano lessons when I was in elementary school. I also played the drums at church. I even know a lil about the guitar. (My piano teacher taught me a few things about it) My style is definitely DOWN SOUTH!!!, but i'm very versatile. I create musical landscapes varying from gangsta, pop, sad, evil, happy, romantic, and some more. I'm always trying to use different instruments and be creative, yet I don't like to go too left field because the consumers have to like the music. I'm the best of both worlds...underground and mainstream at the same time. I'm basically looking to show off my talent, so anyone who likes what they hear, give ya boi a holla. I'm not trying to bust heads because I know times are hard, but you will definitely get more quality than what you pay for. DOWN SOUTH!!!
