Paul Grenier is a Montreal based solo recording artist and songwriter. With roots that go back deep into the New Wave synth pop style of the 80's, you can clearly hear the echos of that era in each of his songs. Today, his style can be best described as Adult Alternative. He has also had TV placements and is in the eternal endeavor of making music a career that actually pays.
Why this name?
It's my real name
Do you play live?
No live performances yet, but I'm going to put a band together and see where it leads
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Completely. Music is now back in the control of the creators and the fans, not the industry!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
It would have to be a compelling offer, but I would rather be with an Indie Label and not get pushed around like a commodity as much.
Band History:
I started writing and experimenting with synths in 1983, which was when my father bought me my first keyboard. Roland JX3P. It was awesome. Then had a Boss Drum Machine and a 4 track cassette recorder. Taped a Radio Shack microphone to a home made mic stand, and went bananas.
I took piano lessons for 2 weeks and gave up. I decided I wanted to write my own music, so taught myself how to write, how to perform, to engineer and to produce
Today, I have the luxury of a substantial private home studio with a lot of great gear and the means to transform my thoughts into music with a lot more clarity and beauty than before.
I've had some TV placements and have also freelanced on a few animation projects doing the entire sound design, FX and voices as well as music.
Your influences?
In my earlier music days a lot of my influences included the likes of Tears For Fears, Vintage Elton John, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, The The, Strange Advance, The Guess Who, and even Loverboy! They all had a huge impact on how melodies are created in my mind.
Equipment used:
64 Bit SONAR, Core 2 Duo, 4 Gig RAM and a sh*** load of excellent plug-ins, samplers, synths.
Event 2020bas monitors with sub, UltrasoneProline 750's, Sony MDR 7509
Korg Triton keyboard, other controllers, Roland Fantom XR, vintage synth modules, DM5, Lexicon.
Summit pre and compressor, Mercury Grand Pre, Aphex pre, Tube EQ's, Apogee Rosetta convertors, Neumann TLM 149, Rode Classic II, Rode K2, AKG414 XLII, C3000, Audix dynamic mics. And recently, in my hope to learn guitar, A Godin Seagull acoustic guitar!
And the best piece of gear I have, is the gift of being able to create music in the first place
Anything else...?
I hope everyone enjoys my songwriting and my voice. Please feel free to leave me any comments and feedback. Enjoy!!
