Damascus Dawn is a diverse group of people dedicated to one goal: proclaiming the love of God through music. We come from various ethnic backgrounds (from white, to black, to hispanic to a little bit of everything), musical backgrounds and varying marital status. But the things we have in common far outweigh our differences: we all love Christ, and we all love music.
Damascus Dawn is:
Michelle Scott Redmon: Lead Vocals, Acoustic Guitar Songwriter
Lannae Mahan: Bass, BG Vocals
John Mahan: Lead Guitar
Deborah Young: Keyboards
John "Johnny B" Blackledge: Drums

Why this name?
It's a twofold reference. Damascus Road is where Saul of Tarsus had his "dawning" realization of Who Jesus really was. So it is a reference to that, but also there is a type of steel called Damascus steel that is made up of many different types of steel. It is this diversity that makes it stronger, and we feel that the same is true of our band...and of the Body of Christ.
Do you play live?
We play live as much as we can! We play at coffee houses, festivals and churches. We're also open to playing house concerts. We LOVE playing live. The best part about playing live is the feeling that we're making a difference in people's lives. The special moments are those times when a listener comes up to us afterward and says that something we said or sang touched them or brought them closer to God.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think it levels the playing field. I heard that only something like 10% of artists actually get "discovered", which leaves the other 90% of us struggling. With the internet, those of us who choose not to have a label have the opportunity to get our name out there without needing to have a lot of money for promotion.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Never. I (Michelle) love the feeling of being an Indie artist.
Your influences?
Jennifer Knapp, Barlow Girl, Superchick, Hillsong, Casting Crowns, Third Day, Mark Schultz, and many, many more.
