No band, it's just me... although I do enjoy having my students gig with me, or having someone from the crowd grab any one of myriad instruments I keep around.
Why this name?
My parents chose without asking me.
Do you play live?
Have to play live... a song is not a song unless it's shared.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The Internet has made music and musicians more accesible. I get to hear things I would never have heard otherwise.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
No.
Band History:
I've been a musician since before dirt was invented, been in bands off and on, always comfortable playing solo. My last adventure was a jug band, but I'm looking for a particular sound and a particular group of folks. One of these days I'll put together another jug band. Right now, I'm back to solo.
Your influences?
Robert Wilkins, Bukka White, John Lee Hooker, Henry Thomas, CCR, Rolling Stones, Bo Ramsey, Greg Brown
Favorite spot?
Anywhere I can hear the ocean lappin' across the sand, or exploding against the rocks.
Equipment used:
Two metal resonators (dobros) — one chrome the other gun metal — a wood body dobro, a 1936 cowboy guitar, a big ol' Silvertone Archtop, and my banjo. For the big gigs I have an Alto 400w powered speaker. For smaller gigs I use my Roland AC-60. I perform into a condenser mic, whether live or in the studio.
Anything else...?
There's always something else, but that's my business. Come to a gig and I'll tell you everything you never wanted to know.
