He had no father,
His mother’s wayward son.
Lived near the factories.
He stood out in the sun.
Had no promise.
No purpose that he knew
Yet, something called to him.

He had no substance.
He had a broken soul.
Ate what they fed him,
He never thought at all.
But when a night star
Was rising in the sky
There were dreams in him.

He learned of nothing
As he gazed out from his school
To azure sky –
He followed all the rules.
They told him something
And he just said it back.
Took all that nonsense
And stuffed it in a sack.
Something mattered,
But he did not understand
And yet it burned in him.

Then something happened,
They built that bloody war.
Dressed him up
And marched him out the door
To kill for nothing
Of which he could be sure
For the war machine.

But something happened
Like fire burning through,
Like voices calling
Or old dreams coming true.
That boy was nothing,
A shadow in the wind,
But now he IS

He made a promise.
He vowed to cure his soul.
He cursed the Mother – Father – Leaders
Of us all.

So he was nothing;
We are born that way,
But you must change in life
If only just to say –

To Say - To Say
I am.

(I am.)

(He made a promise.
He vowed to cure his soul.
He cursed the Mother – Father – Leaders
Of us all.)
