Why this name?
We chose the name Genovese Effect because we thought that the bystander effect was very thought provoking and that we see this effect everyday in our lives. Plus it just had a cool ring to it.
Do you play live?
Playing live shows is the most fun thing that we do. We enjoy letting other people hear our music as well as getting the crowd pumped up and excited. We mainly play in Peoria, IL and surrounding cities but we are looking to get bigger and better shows here and in the major cities (Chicago, St. Louis, ect...). One special moment that we have had playing was this show we had at a bar near Galesburg, IL where we all were having a blast and one of our members (I am not saying who) ate a rock. He drank free that night.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I believe that the Internet is the best thing that has happened to the music industry. Yea, you have people downloading songs for free, but you also have people that will download songs for money. The people that don't steal from musicians should get a pat on the back.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
We totally would sign a record contract. Anything to get us out of our day to day jobs and get us out on the road would rule.
Band History:
TJ and Rick had been jamming for years off and on again. TJ played in a local band called Angerwound and when they split up, TJ started writing riffs with Rick once again. Adam had been playing in the local metal scene for a while and had some experience putting together shows. Tyler was in a local band called Signs of Vitality and when one of their guitarist decided to leave, he called Adam to fill the rythym guitar spot. They played a few shows and the drummer decided to quit. In addition, a good friend of theirs wife ended her life so that was one more thing that was really rough on all the members. Signs of Vitality decided to call it quits. TJ called Tyler and asked if he would be the vocalist for his new project and Tyler called Adam to come check it out. Adam joined the band. Everything just clicked. Now all that was left was to find a bass player. We sent out many blogs and eventually our search had ended with Vince.
Your influences?
Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, Bullet for my Valentine, Iron Maiden, and anything that just rips.
Favorite spot?
I would say our favorite spot would be Peoria, Il because this is where we come from.
