My name is Shannon Perkins, and I've been recording as WaSte for several years now.
My music is often imperfect, as is my recording style, but I try and remain honest to myself and the song.
I've been playing several different instruments for a number of years, and grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in a little town named Houghton. My brother and I started our first band while still middle school with another neighborhood kid. Ever since then, I have had bands or projects. Some of the bands I've played with include P.N.S., Jake And The Phatmen, Queen Bee, and Flashing Red Airplane. My dad is also a musician, and has played lead guitar since he was a teenager. My brother is a drummer, and my mom can play a mean kazoo.

Why this name?
"Waste" has been my nicknames for years, and is also the tag I play Counter Strike under.
Do you play live?
Right now I'm playing mostly open mic nights, house parties, and coffee shops. I'm looking to expand the amount of time I play live.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think the internet is a great way to get your music out to as many people as possible.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I have often debated this question. While a label is very helpful for promotion, I am a bit worried about how much control of your own music you have with a label.
Your influences?
Guided By Voices, Embrace, Tom Vek, Liz Phair, Stereolab, Pearl Jam, Hot Water Music, Pizzicato Five, Tiger Lilly, Radiohead, The Beta Band, Flake Music, Nirvana, The Cure, The Melvins, Mother Lovebone, The Meatpuppets, Greenriver, Rites Of Spring, Minor Threat, Sunny Day Real Estate, Built To Spill, Deathcab For Cutie, Golden Smog, Soul Asylum, Echo And The Bunnymen, Husker Du, Kill Hannah, June Of 44, The Moldy Peaches, Kimya Dawson, Nine Inch Nails, Joy Division, Bread, Cat Stevens, The Velvet Underground, Mudhoney, Fugazi, Elvis Costello, Bob Dylan, The Grateful Dead, Hot Tuna, Fever Tree, Godhead Silo, Can, Dinosaur Jr., Jets To Brazil, Rites Of Spring, Elliot Smith, Moss Icon, Cat Power, John Frusciante, The Church
Favorite spot?
I'm living in Grand Rapids now, but my favorite spots are Misery Bay and Mount Brockway in the U.P.
Equipment used:
My oldest recordings were simply made with a crappy Labtec microphone and Audacity 123. Right now I'm starting to use Garage Band on my MacBook Pro. But I am working with someone on re-recording my material with more sophisticated methods.
