I'm a recording engineer/producer/artist. I've been producing and making beats since the mid-nineties. I usually don't use samples, and play all the instruments myself. However, as an engineer I'm proficient with Protools, fruity loops, digital preformer, MPCs, and all other type of sequencing programs.
Why this name?
First and foremost I must clarify that the name is the word "type-cast" spelled phonetically.

The way that I view life, is that it comes in phases. In your mother's womb is a phase, infant phase, toddler phase, elementary school, middle school, high school phase, and so on. Every phase is like a motion picture, a whole collection of events that in the words of "Da Truth" is an open book. Well that book then becomes a screenplay, and that becomes a movie. In that movie, every person you come in contact with is a character. Some are main characters, like family and friends. While others are bit players, like the girl you bumped into the other night at the club and bought a drink, just for her to walk away.

In every movie you would play the main character, or have the leading role. But every phase is a different movie, and you change in your life as you mature and get older, so you play different roles.

Well, myself personally, I have been typcast. I have played the same role in every phase of my life, I have always been the same person since day one. Since the first sentence I spoke I have never shut up, and everyone that knows me, knows exactly how I feel. My name is a metaphor for me never changing, and always being steadfast in who I am.
Do you play live?
I am pretty much a studio guy. I have a studio in my house, and I spend all my spare time in there. I also do live shows sometimes engineering for a local band.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet is opening up doors for alot of up and coming artist to shine, and be able to get theirselves some recognition, even when major labels may pass on them. But for major label artists, they are complaining about the internet ruining their artform. However, the truth of the matter, is that the internet offers the ability to keep music at its truest form by making it no longer about huge labels run by accountants and millionaires who don't really connect with the music they produce and sell at overly exaggerated prices. So I think the internet is definately good for people who just love to make music and want to not get too heavily involved with the politics of the industry.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Never.
Your influences?
I am real old school, so I love all the late eighties and early nineties hip hop, motown, stax, old school gospel, jazz, classical, and classic rock. I have many favorite artists that are too numerous to name. But if the melody is nice, or the percussion sounds especially lively, I am drawn to it, and will draw inspiration from it.
Favorite spot?
D.C., L.A., and Orlando are definately my favorite cities.
Equipment used:
I use whatever I get my hands on. My favorite combo right now are my fender bass, my yamaha keyboard, my alesis DM5 drumset, and reason adapted 3.0.5. All going into protools. That's my current setup.
Anything else...?
Just check out the beats, and get at me if you like anything you hear. Keep in mind though, "I'm an artist, and I'm sensitive about my shit!!!!!!"
