Five One Four (514) is an artist unlike any other. With his relentless persistance to modify his sound, style, and vocal abilities he as truley created his own unique sound. His Repertoire include genres ranging from Political raps to Soulful ballads. Refusing the mass conformity that exists the the mainstream entertainment in America he vowed in 2006 "I'll never sound like that!!!A manufactured sound that has no soul, power, or the essence of what it truly means to be an artist. There needs to be a Mental Revoulution." With a personal motto "There's no such thing as failure" 514 has managed to cross the threshold of doubt from his peers and low level critics that he'll never make it. His journey through music will be sure to make history. In his own words "Greatness is something history refuses to hide behind criticism."
Why this name?
A name given by his sister for an online e-mail website, a young man took a shine to it. Seeing how his voice was often mistaken for 2 people in the same recording when in actuality it was only one, he chose a name that gave no hint as to the singular talent on the track kept it to exploit it's full potential. Most number names in music usually refer to a group of people rather than only one. He often jokes, "I have fivehundred and fourteen different styles the bing out into music."
Do you play live?
Having only performed in his highschool talent shows, he showed promise to a captivated and enthusiastic audience. Sometimes he was even showcased in a local club by a dj for his incredible developing ability to dance.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Utilizing the Internet as a means to gain the attention of anyone who will listen, 514 hopes to eventually gain enough support to pursue music independently as the growing need in the recording music industry for talent like his is greatly desired. The internet gives him the accessability to network online for just such an opportunity.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
514 has been offered the opportunity to sign to a couple of Indie record labels and has only remarked The offers I recieved weren't for me, but if the right offer comes along, I'd be all too happy to take it."
