Formed in Teaneck, NJ in 1983 Diver was early 80's Pop/Rock at it's best! Founding members Art DeMatteis (Lead vocals), Eric Rocco (Guitars), and Billy Willets (Guitars) were three young motivated and aspiring musicians with a considerable amount of raw determination in their music. The band was influenced by the Big Rock Acts of the time including: Asia, Reo Speedwagon, Foreigner, Survivor, Journey, Loverboy, and Night Ranger. The band performed in Northern NJ during the early to mid 1980's and wrote some very catchy originals including "Night Stalker", "Still in Love with You", "Long Distance Lover", and "Stranded". The band tried different drummers including Tibor Bodner from Bogota, and session man Steve Permuy from Teaneck. The band planned to enter the studio in 1985 with enough original material to recorrd a small demo album. It was at this time that artistic rifts were forming within the band, and by 1986 Diver had pretty much disbanded. The band has not performed together since 1985. Each member continued along their own musical and personal paths until a phone call from Dematteis to Rocco was made in December of 2006. Since then, Dematteis, Rocco, Permuy, and Willets are currently in the planning stage for a Diver reunion jam in April of 2007. It will be the first time the boys have seen or played with each other as a group in over 20 years! Since the April Reunion Jam, the band records every 3 months together for fun. Diver are currently working on a project entitled "Fathoms", which is a collection of early 1980's MTV hits!
Why this name?
It was the brain child of guitarist Eric Rocco. A combination of "Diver Down" by Van Halen, and Holy Diver by Ronnie James Dio.
Do you play live?
Currently we are only a recording band...but you never know!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It provides better exposure for unsigned bands.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes
