i make beats on my pc in my bedroom...
Why this name?
i'm a nerd, it was inspired by the work of french philosopher foucault. make of it what you will.
Do you play live?
i haven't played a live gig for years, life kinda got in the way. best moment was probably playing nye 01/02 at the woodford folk festival.
have been dj-ing in london lately. best gig here was abi's 30th.

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
makes it a lot easier to share/steal music than when we used to have to listen patiently to the radio, poised to press play/record when our favourite song came on!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
ha ha. if only one would want to sign me!
Band History:
i started out making beats with a mate, jc (john chantler, who has since gone on to bigger & better musical things!) in 1998. we called ourselves 'lo key feel', & put out a fully independent, limited release ep called 'introducing the conditions of possibility' in early 2000. the two 'acid hop' tracks on this page are from that ep. we played a few gigs in and around brisbane at that time.
we changed our name to artifik/o and kept gigging around brissy.
when jc moved overseas i figured my musical persona should reflect that change, so i invented 'strategic play' and made a few tracks with some other mates. one of the tracks on this site (bulichi) is the first thing that 'strategic play' put together. i've kept the name and mainly work solo now, & dj clubs and parties etc as dj haze.
