doreen and john
We live in the West Midlands U.K. Our style is simply acoustic and vocal 'on the warm heart side of cool'. Our songs are self penned, encouraging and will make you feel good. Doreen: "I began writing songs in 1996. I wanted to share and inspire others with my own style of music .. to express faith, love and peace". John: "My background is in english and irish folk music. We arrange and record the songs together and this combination brings togther a unique sound you will want to hear over and over again". We're always looking for a wider audience to enjoy our music and have produced 2 CD's, introducing a range of acoustic instruments including the bouzouki, banjo and mandola. Hope you like our songs !
Why this name?
just decided on our own names. That's us.
Do you play live?
We love to play live. We have played at open mike sessions, fund raisers, corporate events, church, weddings, folk clubs and festivals in fact anywhere we can find a new audience. We have made a couple of local radio appearances, playing live. Other memorable occasions have been playing at Buxton Opera House , holding our own lunchtime concerts at St Martins Church in the Bullring Birmingham UK and travelling all around the midlands day or night and in all weather, finding any room or pub where there is somewhere to play with someone to listen. It's been good to meet new people around good live music and we have been told our own style has a smooth and peaceful quality.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It makes the music available to everyone and gives all artists and bands a fair chance.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Maybe in the future but with the internet and mp3 it's good to have the freedom and control over our own music.
Band History:
Doreen: One Sunday morning my Pastor introduced himself and asked, " you can sing ?" shook my hand then calmly walked away. Inspired by this chance conversation, I began singing solo during church services. I've had no formal musical training, but would often wake in the early hours of the morning with a word or tune in mind. At a Christmas work party, each member of the team contributed something they enjoyed. I sang a song and John played guitar. Shortly afterwards John showed me 3 chords and lent me his prized Epiphone guitar and I began teaching myself using what came from within. John and I teamed up together, playing live and writing, arranging and recording our own songs. John: My interests are in traditional english and irish folk music with a shot of pop, blues, country and R&B. I played first around our local area in 'pickup bands ' and folk groups with my mates, and later, when living in Leeds I was drawn towards traditional Irish music and spent good times busking in Germany. I think my style and my contribution to Doreens music and our sound reflects all these things.
Your influences?

This song has a truely uplifting quality. Doreen's unique voice and acoustic sounds blend perfectly. It's one of those songs that keep going round and round in your head long after you've stopped listening. Excellent stuff Doreen and John.
