THE SERENITY PROJECT was created by composer, producer, engineer, James Phillips as a launch pad for in house projects recorded in Serenity Recording Studio.
James was once signed to Columbia Records with the band Small Wonder. James later went on to work as a studio musician and recorded with such artists as, The Pointer Sisters, Leo Sayer, Tina Turner, and Burton Cummings among others.
James now records for his own SERENITY RECORDS label.

Why this name?
My recording studio is called, Serenity Recording Studio, so it made sense to name the in house productions, THE SERENITY PROJECT.
Do you play live?
I have played live with many well known artists for years and years, but THE SERENITY PROJECT has yet to perform live. Perhaps soon.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet has given the independent unsigned musician the means to reach a global audience, something only possible before with a major label deal.
I've often thought it would be interesting to see how some of the acts signed to major deals would fare if the only exposure they got was side by side with the indie artist on the internet. So many of the indie artists I've heard are much more talented and much more interesting than anything the majors have to offer. Maybe in the not too distant future, the playing field will be equal, and we will all find out just how many majors get played and downloaded as compared to indies.

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
YES, but only if 3 conditions could be met. 1, I have complete control over production. 2, I retain all my publishing. 3, They promote it. And I mean PROMOTE IT!!
Your influences?
I've been influenced in some way or another, by every piece of music I've ever heard.
Favorite spot?
Right where I am now, in Northern New York, right next to the Canadian border. No matter where I've travelled, I find this to be a very creative place for me.
Equipment used:
Fruity loops, cakewalk, sound forge, Zoom sample trak, Roland VS machines(2), Alesis MMT8, mini moog, moog source. Putney VCS3, Yamaha CS2X, Yamaha DX7, Korg X5DR, Mellotron. I've also made several recordings on the pipe organ.
Anything else...?
