I was gifted with the ability to play music by sound, not by written music. Over the years I have found many ways to express my talent, one of them with a great group I formed in the early seventies. “Junior & The Dolls” consisted of myself, four beautiful and talented ladies, a great bass man, lead guitar player, sax man and the best drummer anyone could ever have. We toured much of the US East Coast, Dallas, Houston, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Toronto, Montreal, and even performed once at the Mississippi Coliseum in my then hometown of Jackson, Ms. I never have considered myself a good musician but was very fortunate to have some great ones around me.
Junior & The Doll's were just another of the hundreds of "no-name" groups that play without star recognition. We honestly preferred it that way. We had fun, played to many, many great audiences and made and spent a lot of money in the process. It doesn't get any better than that!
Junior King is a published songwriter, former member of the American Federation of Musicians ( AFM), Local 1000 New York and a current industry voting member of the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA). I enjoy almost all genres and have played anything from Gospel to Classical. My music is licensed through ASCAP and I now produce my own music via my company No-Talent Productions.
Retired from public performing I have returned to the amateur ranks. Most of the time now you can find me in my office at Harreld Chevrolet Company in Canton, Mississippi which has been my "day job" for over 40 years when I wasn't off playing music or otherwise screwing up.

Why this name?
My nickname is "Junior" although I am not by birth name a "junior". In Knoxville, Tn I met and hired four beautiful and talented ladies to be my background singers. They were so pretty that I named them the "Doll's", thus came "Junior & The Doll's".
Do you play live?
I am now retired from live performing yet at least once a week I get the urge to do it all again!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The Internet has changed not only music but our lives...and not all for the better in my opinion.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
No. I recently turned down an offer to tour, etc. I had my turn in the spotlight and loved every minute of it. Today there are many more deserving than I to carry on.
Band History:
Living in Loudon, TN in 1973 I chanced to meet a pretty lady by the name of Nancy while playing solo at a local bar. We became a duet then later recruited three of her friends. Along with them I found a great drummer, a bass man and a lead guitar player. This was the birth of "Junior & The Doll's".
Your influences?
I grew up with a mother that sang and played gospel hymns on an old upright piano almost every day and a father who had a wonderful deep bass voice.
Favorite spot?
My favorite spot is sitting in the garden patio at Howard's Restaurant in Gatlinburg, TN with my beautiful wife and soulmate by my side lounging in the shadows of The Great Smoky Mountains. My favorite place to play music is New Orleans, La.
Equipment used:
Marshall stack guitar amps exclusively, Roland & Motion Sound keyboard amps, Kurzweil stage piano, Yamaha & Korg Synth's, Hammond B3 organ, Steinway Concert Grand piano, Gibson Les Paul, Epi AlleyKat electric guitars, Martin 6 string and Fender 12 string acoustics.
Anything else...?
Playing music has always been just a fun hobby for me even while touring with my group. I have never taken it seriously because I never thought I was good enough to make it as an entertainer anyway and never really cared. I have spent countless days and hours playing, writing songs and entertaining those who would listen to me. I have played on street corners, churches, barrooms, flat bed trucks, railroad box cars, in homes, cow pastures, football stadiums and some places I won't mention here such as a ladies restroom (I was invited in) in Dallas, TX. Even now I still love to play as much as the first time I ever touched a keyboard over 50 years ago.
Having several children, my music travels also blessed me with a musician daughter Brianna and my Irish son Danny who, unlike me, are both real musicians in their own right. Bri is an International concert pianist/college professor/mother and Danny formerly toured Europe, Canada and the USA with his group and recently moved back to Ireland with his Canadian wife and new baby daughter.
