11/21/2009 I added a new song / video called David's Song based on Psalm 23. Hope you like this one.
11/20/2009 I added a new and updated version of Can You Tell Me. Hope you like it.
6/12/2009 I just added two new videos...An Old Man Cries By the Sea and I'll Give You a Nickel.
3/9/2009 I just added three new videos...You're the Rock; Road I Hoe; and She Drives Me Crazy. Hope you like them.
1/25/2009 Happy New Year everyone! I've revised three songs that I wrote in 2008: Don't Jerk Me Around, Can You Tell Me, and I'll Give You a Nickel. I've also added four new videos based on these three songs and An Old Man Cries by the Sea. I'm pleased with the new versions and I hope you are too. Thanks for listening and I wish you the best of success in 2009!

description
This song has evolved again over the last few months. I hope you like the latest version. This one is about that girl that you think loves you, but some unexplained things have got you thinking that you both may be living a lie.

Abner Stowe includes Rick Hoffman on guitar and vocal. It's essentially a one-man band right now. However, I'd like to change that. I would like to eventually pick up a lead vocal, bass player, drummer and perhaps some other players to spice this up a bit.
Why this name?
Abner Stowe was an ancestor of mine who fought in the American Revolutionary war. I liked the name and thought it would be a cool band name.
Do you play live?
I've played one or two open mikes in the past. I'm still fearful of getting up in front of an audience and singing. I really just like playing guitar and writing songs. I would much rather listen to someone else perform these songs if they were so inclined. So...let me know if you want to try one of these songs on for size.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
For a guy like me, the internet has been great simply because I don't like standing up and performing in front of a group. I can record a video and get my message across without all the related anxiety of a live session. I think that at some point we're going to see a move toward all video production. You capture two senses instead of just one. The video allows me to see the feelings captured by the lyrics and the music.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
My dream would be that someone would be interested in a song or two and record them. If that led to a contract, great. If not, I still would be happy that someone else connected with one of my songs.
Band History:
No history yet...we're brand new.
Your influences?
I enjoy a number of different artists...Bob Dylan, Jim Croce, James Taylor, Kelly Joe Phelps, Joni Mitchell, Patty Griffin, David Wilcox, David Gray, and Doc Watson to name a few. I also like Liz Phair and Meiko.
Favorite spot?
Gosh, we took a vacation on Hawaii in September 2007. We went to Kauai, Maui, and Oahu. I really liked Kauai--particularly with cold weather and snow happening here in Chicago. In 2009, we went to Temecula, California. That's a wonderful place tucked in between LA and San Diego. Good wineries too.
Equipment used:
I use a Martin 00016SGT, a Taylor 512, and an Fender Stratocaster American Standard. For these recordings, I've used the Martin in standard tuning and the Taylor in open D tuning.
Anything else...?
Nope...just hope you like the songs!
