Stan Halaby II aka Saxsinger, is originally from Detroit, Michigan and resides in presently in San Antonio, Texas. He studied saxophone, vocal music, and theater at Macomb Community College and Wayne State University in Detroit. Having to cut his college short, Stan joined and served 7 years in the US Air Force where he finished off his Bachelor's Degree in music and foreign language. Even through college and the Air Force, since 1986, Stan performed music locally wherever he was at, Detroit, Monterey California, Baltimore Maryland, and San Antonio, Texas. Over the 21 years of 'gigging', he always took time to write music, as you can hear selections of what he's written here as well as collaborations. My most favorite collaboration is Cosmic Taxi, where I play lead on Bluenevus' backgrounds. Besides saxophone, Stan plays keys, EWI (Akai EWI4000s) and sings.
Why this name?
I play sax (among other things) and sing!
Do you play live?
Yes.. in San Antonio, Texas.. It's great! I play different styles and with different bands. Presently I'm putting together a local funk band which is different from my online music I record privately.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Oh yes! It's a whole new world! Musicians can go directly to the fans and get direct feedback and sales..although I don't do my music for money. I do music for the sake of the art and love of it.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Independent is where it's at; however, if the right offer came along I would seriously consider it.
