Basically it came randomly. The K in lokal represents the Kootenays and we like to rep our home so it just evolved from there.

This year we have really stepped up our performance game opening for many big name artists (as seen in the band history) and even headlining our own show.

Makes it readily available and much easier to promote your stuff.

We'd sign to a production company, but probably not a major..unless it was the right type of deal.

LoKal Motif was "officially" formed just over 2 years ago, although we have been emcees for much longer than that. The group is composed of two Kootenay boys- James Mathieu and T-Shunt.
Hip-hop had always played a roll in our lives, and slowly but surely we were drawn towards our passion, which was making music.
With little money and alot of determination we scrounged together some cheap recording equipment and started recording out of a travel trailer. Eventually we upgraded some of our components and today we have full access to a major recording studio thanks to matt's schooling (sound engineering).

2011 marks the beggining of a big year for Lokal Motif. Having already performed live in local clubs opening for big names such as Danny Fernandes, DL Incognito, SonReal, and Jordan Croucher we have taken a big step in our careers as artists and in our passion for music.
Our last 4 songs have all been in the Soundclick Top 100 charts, and we currently sit 2nd in the hip hop charts for Kelowna BC.
We also have many exciting collaborations on the way, with names such as Junk, Depth, Sandeep Mann, and Bitter Rhythm, and we feel this year is truly our year to shine.

**We have recently acquired a DJ and would like to welcome the newest member to the Lokal Mo crew, Ben Fox. Originating from Nelson BC, hes been a beat producer, emcee and DJ for many years now and having his kind of talent in the mix will give us a fresh take on some new music, injecting a new perspective into the sound of Lokal Motif! 2011 is a huge year for us!**
