Kevin Mattingly is a one man songwriter, guitar player, and I have recorded one CD with 12 of my songs called "Walk In My Dreams" while my wife Betsy and I were living in Montgomery, Texas. By May of 2001 we were in the process of moving to Dripping Springs area, in Texas near Austin. Since Betsy and I had written the lyrics to include references to Montgomery, the original version was such. However, upon moving to Drippin' I went back to the Grump Studio where Layton DePenning was kind enough to allow me, through some fancy computer recording techniques, to change the references made on the CD to Drippin', and Dripping Springs along with some other minor changes. The WIMD CD was recorded in Buda, and Austin, Texas. To meet my friends who played on and recorded the CD, go to www.denimband.com and enjoy some great original Texas music there!
Why this name?
Kevin Mattingly Walk In My Dreams CD name was inspired by the Walk In My Dreams song on the CD. This is about encouragement, hope, and a determination to live life the best I can, and never give up!
Do you play live?
Kevin is currently singing Karaoke cover songs, along with anyone else who shows up and wants to sing, on Karaoke night at the Nutty Brown Cafe & Amphitheater located on Hwy 290 West of Austin Texas. Betsy & I have hung around the Nutty Brown for the last nine years and I have hundreds and hundreds of their plastic drinking cups that we use to take our Iced Tea home with. We consider that the Nutty Brown is our "Country Club". I like to sing Elvis songs.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I read somewhere that in 2010 52% of all music sold will be downloaded. Apple iTunes is the number one seller of downloaded music in the world. Buy Apple computers, iPod,, or iPhone. Change your PC's from Microsoft Vista to Ubuntu Linux! Music should be enjoyed with the highest quality sound files and the best listening devices. Sansa is the #2 music audio/video device sold, I have two Sansa players and they work fine.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Sure, iTunes? Here let me use my Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree, from the University of Phoenix Online Campus, along with my Ubuntu Linux based HP Laptop, and I will go over to iTunes, register, and upload my CD so that other Travelers dressed in their blue DENIMs jeans + leather boots can purchase + download those Kevy-tunes, that's cool dude. I thought that Soundclick was selling music?
Band History:
1965 = Learned to play folk, country, rock, and blues. Took choir music and liked singing in 8th grade. Joined garage-rock combo sensations The Mustangs, played local parties. In 1966 helped form The VW's and if you can not figure that one out, then DO NOT ask me. In late 1967 helped to form Duffy's Bar & Grill where we had a revolving membership until 1970 when I stopped trying to perform in public, for money.
Did some original song home style recordings with two friends who had their degrees in music from 1977 until 1980. After John Lennon's tragedy my two friends drifted out of the music thing, and lost interest.
I found that after a daytime of working, trying to craft songs on my guitar kept my creative skills alive. As the years progressed I needed those skills to build original computer programs for solving customer related problems at work for Contract Sales. Learning how to make basic home recordings of original songs proved to be a perfect way to learn some skills that translated very well into business related computer skills.
