I am DJ Double L. I started making beats November of '06 and I didn't start DJing until about March of '07. So, I'm definitely new to the beat producing and DJing scene, but I am definitely no stranger to music though! My first love for beats came from hearing Rahzel beat box. From that I listened and learned to beat box and with that I then went to the beat production scene. I like making beats from scratch, remixes, making beats using samples, man...pretty much anything that has to do with a beat. Ha!
Why this name?
Well...pretty much that my first name starts with two L's and my initials are have two L's as well.
Do you play live?
I do some performances with Kredulous. I am his hype man and DJ. I mainly DJ at house parties though. Need a DJ in tha KC area, hit me up!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It has totally changed how music is marketed. It's not so much about CD sales anymore. The focus has shifted to youtube hits, myspace hits, and buzz on blogs and forums. Word travels so much faster now with things being posted on one central location like myspace or youtube and thousands people can view that piece of info or media within seconds. It's crazy just thinking about it! Also, to play an active role and being involved with other artist you have the option of posting comments on blogs. The internet has definitely changed many things.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I would not for the fact that I would like to do my own thang when it comes to that. Maybe, if my name was out there I would have a different answer. But I think it is a great time for indie artists because it is so much easier to get your name out there and a lot cheaper. As I said before, a lot of recognition now-a-days comes from youtube, myspace, and blogs.
Band History:
Started producing beats November '06
Took the name DJ Double L in March of '06

Your influences?
My main influences are Timbaland, Scott Storch, Pharrell, Kredulous, Tech N9ne, Rahzel, Linkin Park, Fort Minor (more specifically Mike Shinoda), Jay-Z, all motown artists. I like hip-hop a lot and some rock. But my most favorite thing is hearing those two genres mixed and mashed together. There's something about taking two totally different sounding genres and making them jive together. It sounds so sick to me!
Favorite spot?
I haven't had a chance to visit many places yet, but so far my favorite city is Minneapolis. I like their hip-hop scene there. I have been wanting to visit New York and LA for a while now. I will be checking out those scenes some time soon, hopefully this year. As for favorite spot in KC though, it would definitely have to be "the Peanut." Hip-hop all night long with the best wings in town. What more could you ask for??
Equipment used:
Right now I use a M-Audio Delta 1010LT and E-MU X-Board49 for producing beats, recording, and mixing. For DJing I use an Xponent. I love that thing!
Anything else...?
I hope you all like what I have posted! I try to stay versatile and produce a nice variety of different genres. If you would like me to make a certain style beat or remix something please let me know. I'm always down for the challenge!
Also, if you would like the untagged version of any of my beats please do not hesitate to hit me up. Thanks for taking the time to check me out. I appreciate it.
Last, but definitely not least please check out Kredulous here on Soundclick. Much props and respect to that artist!
